I sort of feel like the show's jumped the shark, but I guess this is good.

Hell yeah. I haven't watched since the All-Star season, but I will watch this. And look out for them at the Whole Foods on Magazine.

One of the seasons spent a couple weeks in New Orleans.

The fat bald guy won that year.

ETA- It was season 5, Hosea Rosenberg

It has but I still watch it. NOLA chefs have been featured on the show fairly well, but this will bring good pub to the city.

Not so much a singular 'jump the shark' type thing. I've just noticed less and less focus on the actual cooking than it was when it originally started.

When it first started, you could get a pretty good feel for how a lot of the dishes were prepared. Now, it's almost impossible, the way it's edited.

Well it's the 11th season. They have kind of played out most of their turns and twists. Unless you're really in to food I can't see it being wildly entertaining for the masses. I

I also think so of the challenges are stupid. Cook with one hand? Stupid. Cook with this random arse ingredient? Not stupid.

I also wish they would let them cook things that take longer than 30 minutes or one hour.

yeah but "jump the shark" implies they are doing some off the wall bull shite in a desperate attempt to keep people interested. i haven't noticed anything like that.

I sort of clarified that I didn't exactly mean it that way. Although, Winkface is right, in that a lot of the challenges seem a bit more gimmicky than they need to be.

i do agree that some of the challenges are dumb.

Ah. Ok. Maybe so.

I think of "jump the shark" as something has ran it's course and it's tried the twists and turns and those are played out too. Hell I don't know . Their twists are usually pretty subtle though.

ETA: Going Google Jump the shark to educate myself for the future.

I'm more interested to see the local sites, which local chefs get on their as guest judges and such. I hope they don't ham up the "swamp" stuff.

You know Bourdain will be on a lot. NOLA is basically his favorite city.

the term is used so often now that the bar has probably dropped for what constitutes "jumping the shark", so you might have a point..

I don't know if Bourdain is on the show anymore, since he signed on with that ABC American Idol thing.

The quickfires have always had some sort of goofy element to it. The elimination challenges are usually more straightfoward.

They do. Most of the elimination challenges take place over a couple of days with multiple hours of prep/cook time.

For the most part the show has remained the same, with a few new twist to keep from going stale. The only thing I didn't really care for was the finale on the last season, but Tom Colicchio has already said they won't be doing that again.

What happened there. I haven't watched since All-Stars, like I said.

I'm not talking about prep time. I'm talking slow cooking.
