re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

quote:

A lil better served in one of the show threads, but...after a re-watch of "The Climb" last night, I realized that the show has Loras as the heir to Highgarden...yes?

Besides character population control, what purpose does this serve/ implications for future deviations from the text re: the Tyrell/ Lannister cold war? Especially once the PW comes and goes, and Tommen sits the throne...

Does anyone see an angle here that I don't? seems this change makes the heir apparent a dicey proposition for Highgarden...

yea they did say that

if it was for character control, i dont understand why they didnt just mention in passing that Willas was the heir

im curious what happens with all that jazz

Loras will end up Kingsguard and not be the heir anymore and then they will probably mention that Willas is the heir. Not sure why they would change it unless they just say that Loras was heir due to Willas being crippled.

Cause if they had, the Loras/Sansa/Cersei marriages would be pointless...

Maybe Jaime gets Joff or Tommen to put Ser SwallowsLancesAlot on the KG after Tywin dies to save Cersei...

It just all seems so pointless either way. I don't get it.

I guess even if it was just to let Dance and QoT lady go a couple a rounds makes it worthwhile. A nice window into Great House politics...they play the game like everyone else, children are pawns, etc.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
You're probably right but I don't think Willas even exists in the show.

The Queen of Thornes probably wouldn't have balked at putting Loras on the Kingsguard if Willas was in the picture as heir.

I'm probably in the minority on this but I think the show could follow through with the Cersei/Loras wedding.

It would reinforce Tywin's total control over the crown and add for entertaining scenes between Loras and Cersei.

And it wouldn't change too much in the grand scheme of things.

If they do, could be looking at pretty serious deviations...like the faith's all-out assault on Cersei, now the wife of the future Lord of Highgarden...her sending Loras to Dragonstone/ getting seriously wounded (or was he)...cuz he's not under her command as husband, only as KG...

But maybe not...it would surely add the MAD concept to the cold war...

ETA - mutually assured destruction

ETA II:

just realized that scene mirrored what was going on at Riverrun with the Frey's proposal...just like the Arya straw target/ Joff's Roz target as someone mentioned earlier...damn, that episode was aptly named. Pretty impressive writing, if you think about it.

Loras volunteered to take on Dragonstone because he needed the fleet back at the Shield Islands ASAP to take on the frickface Greyjoys.

It's could still go down like that.

like the faith's all-out assault on Cersei,

Tarly

Apparently Randyl Tarly is quite the badass and I think he's who people need to look out for. I didn't realize he was the only person who won a battle against Robert Baratheon's forces during the War of the Usurper. Now he's arrived at the captial with an entire army with him and is the new Justicar. I see him moving up in the ranks and also was wondering were the Tarlys Blackfyre supporters during that rebellion cause I can see them helping out the Golden Company/Aegon?

btw, what is the board's concensus opinion on Loras' current state of health/location/future? Ive read the last 100 pages or so, dont recall a discussion.

Personally, I don't think he's nearly as injured as he's being portrayed to be.

You better believe that shite.

He is probably the most under-rated characters in the series - Been flying below the radar for the most part, but I saw during my read a very strong similarity between him and Roose Bolton - Tarly's frustration at being second fiddle to Tyrell will manifest sooner or later, probably in the same way, too.

And he doesn't have a psycho heir to deal with like Ramsey.

I could see a set-up where Randall is severely wounded and Maester Sam saves his life...through the same service Randall thought beneath his House...

It's is very unclear what went down at Dragonstone with Loras... they may not have even captured it. (I seem to recall conflicting reports)

Instead just reported they did to get the fleet out of there.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
Martin has been setting up Mace Tyrell as an oaf for four books now. With the build up of Tarly as the ultimate general it is only a matter of time before he defects or betrays Mace. Notice in the epilogue of ADWD he continually plays off Aegon and the GC as a non-threat, almost to the point of suspicion.

It'd be better if Sam just leaves him to die and gives him the big ole as he walks out.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
Prologue of TWoW should be Aegon leading the attack on Storm's End and getting killed.

Jon Connigton's failure will be complete and Varys's scheme totally fricked.

And Aegon goes out just like his father.

Aegon will sit the throne by the end of TWOW, no doubt in my mind. The question will be is he good or evil? At this point it is unknown.

Would be the first time in the series without a Baratheon on the throne

I'd be cool with that but I don't see it going that way.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS
A Baratheon hasn't sat the Throne since book one. The Blackfyres are the long con in the game of thrones and I think GRRM gives us some irony with them having the shortest tenure on the iron throne. I think the Others wreck the realm and what little stability is left.

I don't think Aegon is a Blackfyre but I could see them making an appearance

No way he isn't a Blackfyre.
