Let's analyze a modern 'country' song...

germans, yesweknow, yada yada....let's actually type dis bitch out and make fun of some people

Let's look at Florida Georgia Line's #1 hit single "Get your shine on"

quote:

Strawberry shimmer on hot lips,
Silver buckle hangin' off her hips.
I bet she's a real cowgirl
quote:

I sparkle when she smiles.
:|
quote:

Shinedown on the radio dial.
this is a country song right?
quote:

Homemade jar o' lemon drop, take a sip.
you mean sweet tea amirite?
quote:

Don't stop girl, you know I love it when you get your shine on!
'Cause you and me be rocking all night long!
Summer sky drippin' rhinestones,
Turn your party lights on,
Baby get your shine on - shine on!

Baby get your shine on!
can come straight out of a "pop" song
quote:

Silverado, candy painted,
no....
quote:

Ray Bans, got the whole world shaded
oh yea bruh
quote:

Chrome piece tucked in the console,
yea i'm pretty badass
quote:

Riding high, roll up on the down low.
Feeling lucky, got hooked up with some Kentucky clear.
i am like such....a badass
quote:

So slide that little sugar shaker over here...
And get your shine on!
'Cause you and me be rocking all night long!
Summer sky drippin' rhinestones,
Turn your party lights on,
Baby get your shine on - shine on!
again...an nsync song
Baby get your shine on!

quote:

Homemade jar o' lemon drop take a sip.
you mean that sweet tea you made earlier?
quote:

Don't stop girl, you know I love it when you get your shine on!
'Cause you and me be rocking all night long!
Summer sky drippin' rhinestones,
Turn your party lights on,
Baby get your shine on - shine on!
Baby get your shine on!
or was it backstreet boys?

When I first heard 'Mr. Mom' I knew that I was done with new country music.

Can anyone, anywhere, at anytime, imagine Waylon Jennings singing a pussy song like that?

I clicked on this thread not expecting much bc I hate most all of country music in general, but your post had me .
I've never heard that song, and dont plan to, but those lyrics are as pop as it gets.

There's a few out there giving it a go that are worth it... But only a select few.

Turnpike Troubadours being what comes to mind as damn good modern country

The only country I ever listen to(and its on rare occasion) is stuff I heard my mom always play when I was a kid..Garth Brooks, George strait, Waylon Jennings..
I feel like folk music is as close to country that I can get to

I downloaded FGL's latest album. It's basically a rap cd.

Kip Moore and Eric Church have done me right with recent album purchases, though.

Well, that old scene is always comin to me
I see you standin with your husband and your child
And you’re a picture of strength, and grace and beauty
And me I’m just a fool in a super market aisle
Well I, well know hello would surely end up awkward
I never had the knack for talkin any way
You’re not the kind for bending over backwards
Smile and turn my shopping cart around and walk away

Cory Branan - whiskey grove

My name is Miguel Simone
A man who walked it alone
At least that's what it says on the stone under the sycamore
My mother was dead by the time I was born
In the black of my eyes the gypsy nurse warned
She could already see my path torn between the sun and the moon
So I walked it and I walked it straight
Until I passed through so many a gate
That not even the blame and the hate of my father could follow
So roll me into my last shallow bed
Use carpenter tacks in the lid
Waste not the silk on my head my lover has wove
See that no roses touch my grave
No prayers to a god I never forgave
No final wishes, save that you
Bury my body and me down by Whiskey Grove
I once knew the love of a wife
Sometimes the nectar, sometimes the knife
But it always seemed that my life was lived alongside of things
Three children born one hot July
She clutched the one that did not die
The heat and the light just passed by as I carried the other two -
I still carry the other two
I've seen the place where the daylight was killed
And the blood of a blue moon lay spilled
Where hearts go quiet, memory stilled, rest is bestowed
It's a place where the cup passeth over for good
And even Jesus would've hid if he could
In that forsaken stretch of wood they call Whiskey Grove
My name is Miguel Simone
A man who walked it alone
At least that's what it says on my stone under the sycamore

Country music, if you want to call it that, is no longer "the white man's blues."
