legal to OC with CCL?

I was told recently that if you have your concealed carry license, you are forbidden from open carry, is this true?

That sounds like bad information, but someone else will know for sure.

That's what I was thinking. It didn't sound right. However, if you have your ccl, why would you want to oc?

I'm pretty sure you can open carry regardless of a CC permit or not. It's a right granted in the 2nd amendment.

Open carry is not in the Bill of Rights, the right to own firearms is. In the US, laws concerning open carry vary by state and sometimes by municipality.

Our forefathers really meant "bear arms"

The same reason the off duty police officers don't, safety.

Don't try that in NYC, among others...

That is just wrong and not true. Why are you lying? Please explain why one would OC if they could legally CC. Are you saying that the police are doing it wrong? Please call 911 and tell them.

Not sure about that but it would make sense to me if you live in an open carry state you can open carry regardless of ccl. But a ccl does not give you the option to open carry in states where open carry is not allowed.

What you have to remember is that gun laws changes state to state and sometimes city to city. Someone could tell you something true for them and be wrong for you...

This is not my experience, I see several regularly while they are off duty, and they are always OC'ing.

That may be the case. I have worked for a state law enforcement department and have interacted with many local departments around BR and I stand by what I said, in and around BR.

re: legal to OC with CCL?
Both OC and CC are good. I doubt an OC would be approached on the street by a mugger looking to make a quick buck. They would wait for an easier target.
CC in this situation, it may be too late with a gun pointed at me looking to take my money.

Now if something like the LA bank robbery went down were the thugs are hard core and out to kill then maybe an OC would be a target.

I like to have the option of both.

Glock over 1911
Judge is gimmicky
AR berrter than AK
etc etc etc

To those saying it may vary from state to state, this info came to me from someone who had just finished the La ccl course. The instructor told them this and showed them where it was written somewhere in the law and they in turn told me. My response was that it may be written in there but not enforced. It just doesnt seem right to me though.

so they have their badges displayed while off duty?
How do you know that they are off duty law enforcement?

I think the message that really applies is that it's a faster and easier draw if you OC, i.e. LEO.

Whether it's safer is another discussion. You may be targeted first if SHTF if you OC'ing. Arguments can be made for either way.
