Finance beginnings, medical future. An expert on solid state physics, advanced mathematical theory, the history of everything, and your religion. A true renaissance man. Also the only person to go overboard in his hubris on the Internet, and NOT be full of shit! Man, the OT attracts the best of them.

America is a Christian nation, true or false?

Thanks. I've heard your diatribe before. Just wondering how your relationship with dad is.

That's alot of underlying anger or resentment for people who have done this (pray) for thousands of years. I too, like you, had and still have my doubts, anger and a sincere lack of understand how He and/or everything works. I also am not naive enough to believe I will ever be capable of understanding .. No matter how much sociology, anthropology or science books I read. Your fatal flaw is that your entire foundation of knowledge is based on human principles and logic - faulty machinery.

Depends... in the sense that a majority of our population is Christian and it affects our culture more than other belief systems, yes. In the sense that our founding fathers intended our government to be influenced by christian doctrine, no.

I cite the treaty of Tripoli... "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..."

Also, I'm not an expert on solid state physics or advanced math, but I am very well versed in the other subjects listed, including the doctrine and history of the christian religion.

You are well versed in the criticisms and interpretations you have read from other atheists. That really isn't the same thing.

Is dad still praying for you?

America is a religiously tolerant nation. It was initially settled by many looking to avoid religious persecution.

Many early leaders were WASPs, but our great nation is a melting pot, and that also includes religion

Technically agnostic, but functionally atheist. While I do not have an answer to the question of origin of energy and matter, and hence, cannot deny the possibility of "something" maybe existing that was the impetus for our reality, I can say with full confidence that gods that resemble those dreamed up by man do not exist. So in all practical terms, I'm atheist.

So God dreamed up by man doesn't exist, but atheist principles and beliefs do?

If you can say with full confidence one way, how can you not for the other ?

So a country whose first tenant is that religion shall be separate from the government, may or may not be a Christian nation.

Which "secular democracies'" crime rates do you have memorized? Who commits those crimes? Is the religious makeup of those countries the cause of the crime rate? How do you know?

Good luck in med school. I hope you save many believers in your career.

Rouge - it is and although I am only wiki-versed in it ... Yet even that comes down to the basic understanding of all faith. If the one with the least assumptions is correct ... How can you decide if each side( atheism vs religion) has the fewest ones. They both start with the biggest assumption ..: one that there is a God and the other that their isn't. Scientifically, I haven't seen any evidence enough to give credence either way. All I know is what I want to believe and what I know to be real to me. I can't step on someone for not believing that way.. As if appears reddit is trying to do

That's a pretty bold assumption. My first doubts actually came from reading the bible one summer. Read in full, I saw that it was pretty silly and obviously the work of ancient tribesman ignorant of the forces at work in their world. While understanding of history, sociology, psychology, and science play a part in my complete disdain for faith, I became atheist before I studied any of that. It happened when I was 12. One day, I realized that Christianity was no different than any other religion or mythology. A light went on and I instantly saw how silly it all was. Talking snakes, virgin births, worldwide floods, boats big enough to hold pairs of every species on the planet, talking bushes, seven headed dragons, dudes surviving in the belly of whales, magic... in an instant, it all seemed ridiculous.

Also, read your old testament. The prideful, jealous, angry god it describes is simply a caricature of a tyrannical despot. Your god lacks magnanimity and in no way resembles a perfect, benevolent being.

Its cute that you accuse me of blindly believing other atheist's opinions when you have probably never even examined your own belief. I didn't meet another atheist until I was in high school and didn't read any atheist material until I joined reddit just a couple years ago- many, many years after I stopped believing.
