Tax Rate forces Pacquiao to move fight

quote:

As reported by Yahoo! Sports, boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao’s next fight will take place on November 24; however, for the first time since 2006, the fight will take place outside of the U.S. The official destination of this multimillion dollar sporting event is The Venetian in Macau, China.

As ATR reported in February, the possibility of Pacquiao’s next fight not taking place on U.S. soil due to a punitive federal income tax rate of 39.6 percent was greater than most would suspect.

As boxing promoter Bob Arum told Yahoo! Sports in February, “Manny can go back to Las Vegas and make $25 million, but how much of it will he end up with – $15 million?"

quote:

If Pacquiao were to earn a hypothetical $20 million for this upcoming fight in Macau, his after tax earnings would be $17.6 million – as opposed to the $12.1 million he would earn for the same proposed scenario in the U.S.

You can't really blame a guy for wanting to make more money when he can. No matter how much money it is.

Good for him. Who can blame him? Not Al Gore or any other money and power hungry liberal.

I wonder how much Vegas will lose out on in addition to the ppv sales since it will happen in the early morning here.

How sad is it that China has a lower income tax rate than the US?

Or he could fight Mayweather and make eighty-hundred-kagillion dollars. I don't care where they fight.

What a couple of a-holes. They're both past their prime, now. What a waste - it would have been a great fight.

Wait are they both washed up or would it have been a great fight? Also this man takes blows to the head And body for a living and for your entertainment. Yet you begrudge him because he wants more of the money he's earned? Douche.

Floyd is still the best fighter in the world. Manny was never close. I wish they had fought too though so that Floyd would have shut everyone up after he destroyed Manny. Manny wouldn't even lay a glove on Floyd. But on topic , good for Manny. Why not get as much take home $ as the market dictates?

Why should't china have a lower income tax rate than the US, a large number of Chinese citizens do not have running water or electricity in their "homes", let alone a nation where human rights matter at all. Of course we could cut tax rates in the US tomorrow and agree to live the way the chinese do and then maybe a washed up Phillipino boxer would come and grace us with his presence. Better yet why don't we all live like Phillipinos and cut taxes and regulations down to the same level that they enjoy in Manilla....that is exactly what the GOP has been aiming for since the early 80's.

You're right. The trillions of dollars in taxes that are taken every year in this country are *just* enough to keep the lights on. Some expensive fricking lightbulbs

I would also fight out of the US if I could save even a million dollars in taxes.

Floyd is a giant vagina and is the only reason that the fight won't happen.

He wants to avoid Manny so he can retire with his undefeated record.

Like I said, huge vagina.

You are correct sir. All Americans should strive to live like the average Chinaman and not incur any taxes at all. China is the perfect roll model for a true libertarian society and Manny Pacquiao is a GENIUS for discovering this.....it is truly amazing what you people will pretend to admire in order to shore up your flawed political vision....

Once the president finds out of this he'll fix it. Executive order to confiscate his earnings once he re-enters the US. Oh wait, is Manny of Mexican decent?
