yes but under 110 in all 4 also

That's not accurate.

I don't think it's a big deal. His velocity was down slightly this week, but the conditions weren't exactly conducive to throwing 95 MPH either. Given the wind conditions, I would have to assume the mentality was to get the ball over the plate first and foremost. There weren't going to be any homeruns hit that night even if the ball was thrown right down the middle. After UF gave us a couple runs in the fifth and we were up 3-0, Nola really just needed to throw the ball right down the middle of the plate.

He went 112 in the USC game and 110 in the Arky game. Close enough.

I tend to think his lower velocity was due to the weather. It was fricking cold.

I am not worried about Nola at all, hopefully we get up early friday and can pull him after 6.

Yep it was miserably cold. It's not the easiest thing to get good and loose on a night like that.

Yea, and like you said with the wind, he didn't even need his best stuff. It was miserable baseball weather.

Just pointing it out man. 110 pitches for a college sophomore 4 weeks in a row isn't exactly a light load. I think he will be fine, but even the stronger pitchers in the MLB are typically limited to around 120 - and they don't typically hit that number 4 weeks in a row.

It is a lot of pitches, but I am not in the least bit worried about Nola getting tired before the end of the season.

I was talking about that with my wife and my dad at the game. How is it that we get that weather for a baseball game in May and I am wearing shorts and a polo and sweating at a football game in November?!

MLB pitchers dont get 6 days off. I trust the coaching staff has nola's best interest in mind first and foremost.

Those MLB pitchers are throwing on 4 days rest, vs a full 6, and 120 pitches might only get them through 7 innings in most cases so even if they don't throw 4 complete games, they can easily reach a pitch count over over 112.

True, should have said 4 starts in a row.

I have 0 doubt about this

Not sure where we're going with this. I'm not arguing with you. I am saying that it isn't exactly a light work load to average 110 pitches for 4 starts in a row. I also realize that most (probably about 97%) of the pitches he has thrown during that stretch were not high stress pitches. While I don't think it is a light workload for the kid, I also don't think he is going to get tired and I don't think the low velocity on Friday night was any indication of him losing strength.

It's not a light workload but not overworking his arm either. Basically, I wouldn't be opposed to giving him the hook after 6 or 7 and about 85 pitches in the next couple weeks. I think our bats can provide that based on the opponent and current momentum.

Yep, I agree 100%.
