Jindal's School Voucher Plan Ruled Unconstitutional

Nola.com Article

quote:

The Louisiana Supreme Court has ruled that the current method of funding the statewide school voucher program is unconstitutional. Act 2, part of Gov. Bobby Jindal's 2012 package of education reforms, diverts money from each student's per-pupil allocation to cover the cost of private or parochial school tuition. The act authorizes both the Louisiana Scholarship Program and the new Course Choice program.

quote:

The vote was 6-1, with Justice Greg Guidry dissenting. The plaintiffs in the case include the Louisiana Association of Educators, the Louisiana Federation of Teachers and the Louisiana School Boards Association.

Teachers unions don't give a shite about students. Union interest are in direct conflict with the student and parents in this case. They fight any effort to couple their interest with the interest of the student every step of the way.

Next time you see a special interest group (or what some would call teachers) taking sick days to complain about the state "not supporting our schools" on the Capitol steps in Baton Rouge, keep in mind that they are looking after their own arse and not the kids. "Support our schools" should be roughly translated to "support my continued lack of accountability and protect my defined benefits".

Exactly. Their only mission is to get paid more and have to be less accountable. Screw the kids.

Of course that is a generalized statement, but I feel this way many times when issues about education come up.

I was happy about parents that gave a shite about their kids being able to find better choices. Oh well.

Yeah, Bobby hasn't been doing so well over the past six months. Everything he has pushed is either failing or being challenged in court it seems.

Thank goodness our state is in the middle of a huge energy boom with the economy.

So you post an article and have no opinion on it?

I never understand why people post an article that clearly interests them and don't pose a question or a single thought on it. Good job there.

May the black folk rejoice
Black kids were benefiting from vouchers more than whites. The black kids are the ones stuck in crappy public schools and can't afford to transfer to a private school.

Learn the facts before you post.

What I don't understand though was they had black parents out there with the teacher protesting this. Why in the world would they do they?

OP teaches in LA public schools.

What would you think his opinion should be?
