Teachers unions don't give a shite about students. Union interest are in direct conflict with the student and parents in this case. They fight any effort to couple their interest with the interest of the student every step of the way.
Next time you see a special interest group (or what some would call teachers) taking sick days to complain about the state "not supporting our schools" on the Capitol steps in Baton Rouge, keep in mind that they are looking after their own arse and not the kids. "Support our schools" should be roughly translated to "support my continued lack of accountability and protect my defined benefits".
