Because we understand that this democracy is ours.

This statement alone is enough to throw the whole speech out.

I wonder how many of our fresh college grads realize that our country is a republic, not a democracy.

That would be Iceland. What did I win, Chuck?

You're missing the context of how this word was used. In this speech BO was using democracy to describe the process by which we participate in our political system e.g we allow women to vote, primaries are held to get nominees, one man one vote, civic participation and exercising of rights etc. He wasn't talking about the system of government - which you're correct is a republic.

Honestly? I would say less than 5%.

After all we have every reason to trust this administration. It's not like that they try to intimidate those who disagree with them, is it?

And to think, this woman used to be a reporter for ABC. Go figure.

You are letting political correctness derail your logic. American and communist or Marxist are not mutually exclusive. The American Communist Party and the Progressive eugenics crowd were, in fact, both. Sorry if that's uncomfortable to some.

History is full of great leaders who warned about tyranny. From Plato to Martin Luther King, and of course the founding fathers of the U.S.

I guess Obama is wiser than those who lived through hundreds of years of collective history.

If that asshat was speaking at my graduation, I wouldn't attend.

I would attend, but I would probably vomit in the process.

They always are. "They've" figured it out for the masses. It's really the definition of insanity.

Pseudo intellectual arrogance when coupled with power always ends up in oppression.

Always

I don't care who the leader is. He should know how ironic it is to downplay tyranny when he is the only person in America that has the opportunity to be a tyrant.

He's spot on as usual with his rhetoric but sadly he will continue to shill for right wing business interests. Y'all should love Obama.

I doubt he speaks at many 8th grade graduations, so you have nothing to worry about.
