2004 Pistons had no stars. Hell no one on that team will make the HOF either.

Since his best years were in his 20s.

re: Least Talented Team to Win NBA Finals

Nope. His best years were 93-95, when, coincidentally, he won two championships.

Yeah if you only care about PPG and not defense & rebounds..

His best season was 89-90.

His best 5 year stretch was 88-93. That was his prime. From 86-91 he was the best defensive player in the league - each season and the total stretch.

re: Least Talented Team to Win NBA Finals

Nope.

His offensive repertoire was most refined in the mid-'90s. He was a better passer and smarter overall player. He was more efficient. His PER was highest from 1992-1995 and, again, that's when he won his championships. The first time he won the championship he was the only superstar on the team.

The 2011 Mavs have no business being mentioned in this thread. The answer is the Sonics or 94 Rockets no one else is in the discussion.

04' Pistons for sure, prime example of team basketball there

ehh, depends if you consider defense and rebounding to be "talent." Ben n Rasheed Wallace and Tayshaun Prince were very talented in that regard. Chauncey Billups was an elite PG at the time, and RIP Hamilton was an underrated scorer. IMO, Rip, on another team, could have scored 24-25 a game at that point in his career.

my vote goes to the Mavs

His offensive was improved but his decline in defense was more pronounced. His assists went up because of the type of players he had as a supporting cast.

He was more efficient.

He was a marginally more efficient shooter from the field, not from the free throw line though.

PER doesn't measure defensive performance.

that's when he won his championships

That's also when Jordan was out of the league and he had his best supporting casts.

The first time he won the championship he was the only superstar on the team.

True, but he had a damn good supporting cast in Thorpe (near All-Star level PF), Maxwell, Smith, Horry, and Cassell. His teammates stepped it up big in those Finals against the Knicks and made it hell for their guards/wings.

You're wrong about this. There's more to the game than PER.

Depends on how you define elite.
