Just because a guy makes it from a small DII type of school doesnt mean he had the same "chance" of making the NFL as if he went to an SEC school. Coaching staffs, level of competition, exposure...all play big roles in things such as player development and NFL scouts taking notice.

Obviously all of that matters. The question is what is more important, natural talent or coaching and developement? I think talent is far and away the #1 factor. I think top coaches like Les Miles and Nick Saban do as well. Now the big schools are the ones that get the best talent, in part for the reasons you listed above. So they go together, but the top programs like LSU recruit the best talent, because the coaches know they need the best players to win. An old quote goes X's and O's don't matter if my X's are better than your O's.

Guys that go high from smaller programs like Fisher usually are guys that fall thru the cracks or become late bloomers, something like that. But it does show that talent comes thru, even at lesser or losing programs.

but they are not considered one of the current NFL factories.

What does that matter? They can point to several guys in the NFL. So they don't have the most, it's not a contest. LSU wasn't a "factory" when our current run started, but we still sent guys to the league. Here I guess is the crux of our disagreement. I'd argue we have more guys in the NFL now than 10 years ago, because we've been recruiting better talent and having better coaching is why we've been able to attract better talent, if that makes sense.

nah, he's on the charles scott side not the Al woods side.

I wish GhostofJackson would drop in and give us an update on the Curtis guys.

I do think LSU fans that think a player is hurting his chances at making the NFL by going to A&M are deluding themselves.
It's not delusional if you believe he'll have LESS touches at a place that's signing 7-10 receivers a year.

have been slight disappointments thus far. But like i said, its not their fault. They are forced into roles they aren't suited for.

These young men are having the time of their life. If their mothers and aunts are deeply involved, you can bet they are LSU bound.

LSU offers an NFL pro-style offense coached by a very successful NFL coordinator, who has coached some of the best RBs and WRs in the NFL--LSU all the way.

Talent evaluators and recruiting rankings.

We can't just assume all those WRs are equally talented because they fit the description of small WRS.

How so? What are appropriate numbers for those guys to put up into their sophomore years to not be considered slight disappointments?

Beckham caught over 40 balls his freshman and sophomore year. Landry caught over 50 balls his sophomore year after playing mainly special teams his freshman year.

They were incosistent at times, but I don't see how their roles limited them.

Now I would agree that lack of great production at the QB position limited them.

Landry's legacy has yet to be written.

Im just saying, at this point, Noil isnt saying "man I want to go to LSU and play Jarvis Landry's role!".

how can someone get excited about that?

All the offensive questions will be answered this year with Cam...but I'm a homer

I'm with you bwall. We have lots of chips on the table with Cameron. We cash those in this season and it'll be a recruiting bonanza. If we fail offensively and sputter like the last couple seasons, a couple guys might be more inclined to go elsewhere.

I was kidding bout the Curtis kids. Those were GhostofJackson's words a couple months ago.

only thing that counts is number one pick on signing day. Rest is verbiage or is it garbage at best designed to get attention which it did. That said the sky is falling and Miles never gets the top guys in Louisiana.
