That Staubach quote only proves that cowboys were a stacked team at the time and the saints sucked.
Like saying if Alex Smith was on the current 49'ers team, he could win a Super Bowl
IMO the Saints have a clear top three of:
1. Drew Brees
2. Willie Roaf
3. Rickey Jackson (2 and 3 could be swapped in order).
After that, there are a whole bunch of guys who were very good, but not "all timers".
Jahri Evans is well on his way to joining those three and with another couple of years he gets there.
The other three members of the Dome Patrol should all merit discussion.
Colston and Horn both get discussion, and obviously Colston is still playing so he could increase his chances.
Morten Anderson was really good.
IMO Deuce McAlister and Archie Manning were both good players but are a bit overrated b/c they were the best parts of bad teams, so people have very fond memories of them doing a lot of good things
Joe Horn still above Colston
Jackson and Roaf are in the top 5. Brees is as well
The other three spots can be debated
I can let you argue the other stuff, but you're wrong here Chad.
Colston (life long Saint so far) > Horn (played for the Falcons )
Colston 532 receptions > Horn 523 receptions
Colston 58 TDs > Horn 50 TDs
Horn 7,622 yards > Colston 7,394 yards
Colston 6+years as a Saint > Horn 6 years as a Saint
Horn BBQ Sauce > Colston not food affiliated
Colston Superbowl Starter > Horn Playoff Win
Joe Horn: 4 time probowler, one year was 6 yards behind the NFL leader in receiving yards. Played without Drew Brees Joe Horn had FOUR, that's right 4 years better than Colston's Best year as a Saint.
Colston has been very consistent putting up pretty good numbers with our best qb ever. At the end of the day, colston's longevity will probably over take joe horn's career but for now, i think its rightful to still have Joe Horn above Colston with his eliteness he brought us those 5-6 years or so
Hmm...one of those rare moments that message board banter results in a genuine change of opinion.
This is the best comment I have seen on the internet in a while.
