We wouldn't have won that Super Bowl without him.

I could make an argument that we wouldn't have won the Super Bowl without usama young. Crazy year. Every game, every play mattered

Some plays were just down right baffling and WTF moments were common. But he was a key ingredient in that great Superbowl year. I will not say he was the key ingredient I thnk Vilma and a few others along with Reggie, were the reason. But I think he should be remembered as one of the Saints best.

1) Deuce McAllister
2) Dalton Hilliard
3) George Rogers
4) Reuben Mayes
5) Ricky Williams
6) Chuck Muncie
7) Pierre Thomas
8) Reggie Bush

Yeah, he's top 8.

re: We gave him flack..but boy was he fun at times.....

For a long time, I have maintained that Reggie was not a bust because when you think of busts, you think of players like Ryan Leaf, Charles Rogers, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, and Ki-Jana Carter, guys who just didn't pan out at all, and were not productive NFL players. Reggie had plenty of moments where he was productive, that San Francisco game his rookie year, the punt return for a TD against Tampa his rookie year that helped the Saints win that game, the two punt returns for touchdowns against the Vikings that nearly helped the Saints win that game back in 07 I believe it was. He had the longest TD reception in NFC Championship history, and there were several games where he made a huge impact, including the Arizona playoff game in 09.

So Reggie definitely had enough moments where he was productive for the Saints to be considered a bust. However, due to him being picked at #2 in the 06 Draft and the expectations that were placed on him going in, that's why people will say he's a bust. But compare him to former team-mate Matt Leinart, if you had to pick one of the two as being a "true bust", it's Leinart without a doubt, I mean, he has not had nearly the production that Reggie has had, or the success. Reggie did play a key role in the Saints winning the Super Bowl, when he was healthy, the defense would always have to account for him and what he could do, and that opened things up for the rest of the offense.

Now, ultimately Reggie struggled with injuries and staying on the field, and he cost too much just being on the sidelines, so I understand why the Saints let him go, I was disappointed, but understood the situation. He's a player that has always had big-play potential, but inconsistency and injuries made him too expensive of a player to have, especially when the Saints were trying to negotiate Drew's contract.

I wish him the best of luck in Detroit, Reggie is a special player, and I thank him for what he did in New Orleans, no matter what anybody says, he gave us some good memories :)

I'll remember him as a change of pace back with his best impact being special teams as a punt returner. He was a good goal line back to get to the corners of the end zone and jump across. He was horrible as an every down back because he couldn't run inside, and was ineffective at running outside because he would run backwards or out of bounds trying to find a giant hole in the defense. He was surprisingly tough and was a professional. He'll always be the Saint's draft pick that changed the attitude of the team, and he was part of the greatest stretch in Saints history.

The thing about Reggie was that every time he touched the ball, the fans of both teams collectively held their breaths. It seems like it had equal likely hood of going straight to the house or getting fumbled and lost.

I was in the dome the night he housed two punts (and almost a third) against the vikings.

Good times.

The first run they show on your first link........all I can think is "why did he just run in to the tackler? That was a TD all the way."

Sums up my feelings for him

Did more bad things than good things. Never was able to get the ratio to tip in his favor. Glad he's gone and I wish him well.

You're right. I don't think he saw him though. Kinda looks like he came from his side where there is probably a blind spot from his helmet. He did do infuriating things, but I still liked him. I think he gets somewhat of a bad wrap around here. Sproles is better though.

plenty of hype around this guy before he came to New Orleans, probably too much. I can't hold that against him.

I remember how a lot of people were like "Reggie who?" when Sproles started to assert himself with the Saints.

but if you look at their numbers with in their first years with the team, there isn't much difference.

Reggie 2006:

155 carries 565 yards 6 TD's
88 rec. 742 yards 2 TD's

Sproles 2011:

87 carries 603 yards 2 TD's
86 rec. 710 yards 7 TD's

Sproles was also sharing carries with Ingram, PT, and Chris Ivory.

2006 was all Deuce and Reggie....

this was incorrect. He averaged over 4 ypc up the middle with the saints. He struggled on the toss plays

That Vikings game was probably the best of his career in New Orleans in terms of actually looking like the guy from USC. I still can't believe we lost that game five years later.

THIS. When I encounter Vikings fans that still can't believe that they lost the NFCC game, I merely remind them of that game and tell them that we're even.

As for Reggie, he gave Saints fans some great moments and helped bring us a Lombardi. All the best to him, except of course, when he's playing the Saints.
