Dude you are on drug if you think NHL > NBA in popularity. Geez, when I think there's nothing else I could here on PB that would surprise me, you drop this gem on me

Just go look at ratings. Its football, and then NBA. Its not some huge secret

ETA: Did you really just use a "poll" to make your case?

Dude, it's a gallup poll. You have problems clicking links? Hell you must think I am some graphical genius to make that shite up in 15 seconds.

MLS has a higher average attendance than both.

MLS is the third most attended sport in the US.

Seriously, are you really trying to argue that the NHL and Nascar are more popular than the NBA, today in 2013 in America? Are you really that out of touch with the nation? MLB also isn't as popular, but thats more of a close call.

NBA Finals rating, 10.1

World Series rating, 7.6

Daytona 500, 4.6

Your welcome to look up the Stanley Cup Finals for yourself

ETA: I actually decided to look it up myself, and it was worth it

Stanley Cup finals rating: 2.2 lmao

Thats 100% irrelevant. One is played in an indoor arena with a max capacity around 20,000, the other in a stadium that can seat usually around more than 60,000. Ratings tell you what people watch. Man, idk what world yall live in.

Well, if the NBA could get bigger crowds, the owners would build bigger arenas. I doubt every NBA game is a sellout that would have more people attending if only there were more seats.

NBA stadiums range from about 17,000-22,000 capacity. MLS stadiums range from about 10,000-38,500 (18,000-27,000 if you take out the top and bottom stadiums). I don't know where you are getting more than 60,000.

I imagine you could find any metric you choose to dispute it. I would think NASCAR is easily at least as popular as the NBA. Truth is, the NBA just isn't that popular and most people don't care about it. ESPN does it's best to create drama though.

Harris poll numbers are pretty bad too. Hockey ranked about equally with NBA, and Auto Racing was above NBA as most popular sports.

Is this really the argument you are trying to make? One sport can fit an extra few tens of thousands of people in the actual venue. Cool. Does that cancel out the fact that the other sport can get millions more people to tune it and watch it on TV? No I didn't think so.

And I didn't even mention the fact that basketball is played on a muuuuuch smaller court so only so many people could watch it live.

They would play in 50,000 seat bldgs if they could get the crowds.

You just live in some bubble where the NBA rules, and it's not that way for the rest of the US. Sorry, you were wrong.

I think the NBA is growing and MLB is shrinking. I enjoy watching pretty much any sport besides Baseball. Baseball is weird though, I feel like I have a blast whenever I go to a game, but want to hang myself when trying to watch it on tv.

Theres only one metric that matters: TV ratings. Who cares about polls? If you are really a fan of the sport, you'd tune in on TV. Its really as simple as that. And when it comes to ratings, NFL/NCAAF are kings, and then NBA is number 2. This isnt my opinion, these are facts.

I know you would. You, and most likely the people you associate with, are not a fair representation of this entire nation though.

Ratings disagree with you.

Ratings disagree with all of this.

No it wasn't. My major point was TV ratings tell you what the popular sports are.
