re: Official 2013 NFL Draft day thread---New Orleans Saints War Room

F U.

Never said he was terrible, just that we could get him in the 7th.

If he's so awesome, why does NFL.com not even have a ranking for him LINK

Jesus the 49ers have 13 picks in this draft and we only have 6? The bounty only took away one correct? Jesus they are loaded.

wasn't directing that necessarily at you. it was more aimed at all the ridiculous threads started right after he was drafted.

I have no idea if he is awesome. never heard of him or that school but I trust somebody did scouting before the pick.

Rufus

quote:

Johnson really looks the part of an NFL 4-3 defensive end. Along with plus size, length and muscle definition throughout, Johnson also sports a quick first step, constant motor, and ideal closing speed to finish plays in the backfield. He still appears to have room to pack on additional weight.

Johnson's measurables were impressive, as was to be expected. During the Texas versus the Nation All-Star event, he showcased violent hands and tremendous power in converting speed-to-power on outside-in rush moves. While his leg drive and balance serve well for a power-speed combination at the Division II level, Johnson remains raw from a technique standpoint and will need to develop an inside-out, speed rush move to keep opposing tackles from anchoring down on the inside.

Despite having very few moves in his repertoire, Johnson's overall explosiveness and motor force the offense to account for him, as he simply bulls his way into the backfield with reckless abandonment. When collapsing down from the backside of zone runs, Johnson does tend to turn his shoulders to the football, instead of keeping them squared to the line of scrimmage, resulting in missed tackle for loss opportunities.

Still, what continually stood out in practices was Johnson's competitiveness. Playing with plus effort and fighting through the whistle each snap, Johnson showed the demeanor teams desire in aggressive, pass rushing prospects.

A size-speed prospect with plus physical tools to develop, Johnson should hear his name in the 6th round range, where he'll have an opportunity to make an active roster. Teams must find out why Johnson spent all four years of college outside the Division I level, as he played two years at Kilgore JC and two years at Tarleton State.

apparently it seems we might not have had a shot at him later.

beastly physical ability, extremely raw-

sounds like a good 6th round chance on a 3rd down pass rusher, and maybe with a real training program and coach he can either
a) get bigger and become a solid DE, or
b) become a solid OLB (seems he has the speed at 4.7).

When I saw rufus I just laughed. The Saints don't just grab players no one is familiar with. They get players from schools no one has heard of. The mascot for Tarleton is the Texans. Before they became a 4yr school in 1961 they were the Plowboys- seriously.
