Advice on how to be a great Dad!

I know we have some wonderful parental figures on the OT. What is your best advice on being a great father and raising great children?

Don't seek parenting advice on the OT.

Never show emotion. If you do, your kids will see you as weak and rebel against you, and it will lead to misery in their adult lives.

spare the time to really interact with them
actually pay attention to them
stay ahead of school curriculum. they can learn much faster than the pace of standard school curricula

If ever your toddler disrespects you in any way, you should be clear and decisive in returning his misbehavior with vengeance that shall be visited tenfold upon his head!!!!!

You should spend your spare time getting OT advice on being a good parent instead spending it with your kids.

Love them unconditionally even when they do stupid shite. Oh and they will. Be a parent and not a friend. This is all i got for now. FWIW i have 3 great but not perfect teenagers.

Veneers and dancing lessons early on so your son can sleep with multiple OT 10's by age 12.

1) Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Give your answers some thought before saying yes or no to a request, but a no means NO. There is no debate. Asking a second time should mean asking for trouble.

2) Combine that solidity with a whole bunch of affection. Lots of hugs and kisses and "I love you's". There should be no question that you love them no matter what they do.

Your love is unconditional. Even when you are disciplining them (maybe especially then) you need to let let know that you will always love them and that it's unconditional.

The rest will fall into place.

BE YOURSELF! Your kids, especially young ones, won't even notice your shortcomings.

Plant a tree in your front yard and wait until lightning strikes it and splits it in two. Then make a bat out of the remaining wood. The rest will work itself out.

This!

I never understood parents who want to be friends with their kids. What kind of grown man wants to be friends with a toddler. None of my other friends are six years old.
