Nice, man! I have a friend from Bath, so I guess I sort of follow Bath in Rugby Union.

re: Liverpool FC 2012/13 Season Long Thread

I have a feeling it's going to be atleast 10 games, which I think is way overboard, but it's Suarez so they are gonna nail him...

two things I've picked up on in the past 24 hours via twitter/message boards/sirius radio, etc...

1) A lot of fans of other clubs think it's so despicable we should sell him... I bet they do, I'd want him out of the EPL too

2) If they act is so despicable, why is it that everyone things that its the funniest thing ever and jokes and puns are all over the place... seems the general public thinks its a joking matter (bet the same things werent said when Keane eneded Haland's career)

Again, I dont think he should go without punishment, but good lord people love to blow things out of proportion...

I bet Ivanovic was like, "that crazy MF'er tried to bite me! Damn!" and that was it...

Also, I never thought I'd say this but Gary Neville is my favorite Pundit

I fricking love Neville. Most level headed and fair pundit in the entire country. Never in a million (trillion, really) years would I have ever in my wildest dreams thought I'd respect that man. But he consistently commentates without emotion and a neutral perspective. By far the best thing United has ever produced. Hell, honestly I respect his opinion more than most Liverpool born and bred pundits.

Wait, you think he's going to get less games than the first time he did this? He got 7 games for the first offense and 8 just last year from the FA. Repeat offender status is going to make this at least 10 I'd say.

It is a bit much but I really don't think that's too extreme.

quote:

1) A lot of fans of other clubs think it's so despicable we should sell him... I bet they do, I'd want him out of the EPL too

I'm sure that's part of it, but I'd bet a good bit genuinely believe he should go on ideological grounds. Whether that's called for or not isn't the point. I've talked to 3 fans today of other clubs who all loved Suarez, and until Saturday thought everyone blew him antics out of proportion. To a man, each one of them today think he needs to be sold. I can tell you from my personal experiences with them its not because they're afraid, but because they think there's no place in the EPL for that behavior. Whether that stance is justified or not doesn't matter because it just shows us that, with this incident at least, reaction isn't just a result of the typical tribalism we're used to seeing.

I've wondered the same thing myself. Maybe my personal experience with my friends that I spoke of above is the outlier. Who knows? Its certainly strange to see so many jokes about something so many claim is so disgusting and despicable.

Maybe its because I"m just tired of the constant extremely negative PR shite show he's left us with over the years, but I don't thinks its blown all that much out of proportion. While I don't want to see him go, if the club decided to sell, I would support the decision and certainly understand it.

You know how I feel about the 8 match ban. That was for a different infraction and different circumstances so I think we should leave it out of this. Honestly, I think 8 for this is what he deserves. just because a different country's FA gave him 7 last time doesn't mean the EPL needs to follow that precedent. 10 wouldn't surprise me, and I wouldn't complain about it.

Three things.
1. If the FA give him 8 games or more. Sets a precedent that Biting is worse than Racism. Might not go down very well.
2. FA already has 3 games rule for violent conduct. They cannot exceed it by much or else it will again set a precedent that they will have to follow every time there is a malicious violent conduct.
3. The Dutch ban was 3 for his Red Card + 4 for the actual offense. Given that the referee did not show him red. I can't see how the FA can tack that onto any decision they take.

But then this is Suarez, a player everyone loves to hate and the FA will bring the book down on him. He doesn't do himself any favors does he.

Didn't think of this. Unless they justify 8 because of multiple offenses?

Bleed, don't get me wrong, I'm not discounting your (and other LFC fans) feelings on this... but I just believe it's been made way bigger than it deserves to be...

As for selling, he's not good enough for us, but he's good enough for FCB, RM, etc?? Screw that, I want to keep him...

I agree we'll have to live with any ban, whether i/we feel its just or not.. then he'll start back on his road to redemption..

Just curious, but where do you draw the line? This is a repeat offense (first time at Liverpool), and a history of controversy. But how many chances does he get?

The diving, after BR gave him a talking to he cut it out almost completely.

The racism thing? OK, whatever. I haven't heard any complaints since then.

For every bad thing Luis has done it seems to me he has proven that he can change that thing. But, to me, I don't know how far he benefit of the doubt needs to be extended in regards to violent behavior.

I'm a proponent of second chances. And if I'm FSG, BR, or whoever, then this is Suarez's last chance.

re: Liverpool FC 2012/13 Season Long Thread

Saw this on RAWK. And I cannot but agree with it.

quote:

22nd Oct 2006 Defoe bites a player - receives YELLOW card
23rd Oct 2006 FA no retrospective action as ref has dealt with it and FA do NOT see the case as exceptional
15th November 2006 England friendly against Holland, Defoe on the bench

The FA has clearly demonstrated in this case that they view the biting of a player as non-exceptional violent conduct, refusing to take restrospective action and clearly see no problem with a player guilty of this offence representing the national team within 3 weeks of biting a player.

So I'm fine with Suarez receiving a ban for violent conduct, of course he should, but don't expect me to swallow the FA's bulshit, double-standards and hypocrisy. This is the same governing body, the same laws of the game, exactly the same offence.

Nothing changed except for the name of the player.

And here's Spur's boss Martin Jol's reaction.

quote:

Spurs boss Martin Jol described Defoe's bite as a "comical nibble".

"He was nibbling his arm - there will be no mark. Ask Mascherano if he has got a mark," said Jol.

"It is part of the game. They kicked him three times from behind in 10 minutes and he wanted to show his frustration in a nice, comical way."

The referee, Kevin Friend, clearly spoke with Ivanovic and Suarez immediately after and saw it fit to play on without any cards. How can the FA tack on anything more than a retrospective violent conduct charge is beyond me.

Oh I'm not saying you're wrong. There are two correct sides to this, IMO. I just feel differently, and that's not to say in any way I'm right.

quote:

Just for the record, I don't want to sell him. All I'm saying is that if FSG decide to I'll stand by that decision and understand it. Not going to raise hell about it, because he's been given multiple chances to prove he can be an adult on the pitch and you have to draw the line somewhere.

re: Liverpool FC 2012/13 Season Long Thread

And here's England Captain and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer England captain kicking Neil Lennon straight in the face at 0:36 seconds. Not even a red card. And they let him go without any retrospective action either. They had everyone including the victim and the FA CEO give evidence in Shearer's favor.. But then Shearer was the England captain not unlike the philandering racist that is John Terry. Oh did I say "racist philanderer", I meant "Lion heart Captain".

If it is any more than 4-5 games I expect LFC to take the FA to court based on their previous record.

Mersault... I dont know what he'd have to do, but he isnt close to me..

to me, he's had 2 incidents... this and Evra deal..

All the other BS is silly to me...

I guess if I was the owners and the ground swell from the fan base was that he had to go, I'd let him go... Or if we both came to the decision the PR part wasnt worth it and we were both better off going separate ways.. If he ever went after a fan or deliberately admitted to trying to end someone's career, I'd cut bait...

I think the 8 match ban was ridiculous too and I hate Suarez. However, the FA obviously didn't and they are the ones doling out the punishment. The two things may not be directly related but they both demonstrate a pattern of reprehensible behavior on the pitch.

I mean this guy just bit someone for the SECOND time during a match. It's so outrageous I really have no clue where the FA will go with it. I'm still in disbelief that it happened again.

Bleed, if the Owners thought we should sell him, I wouldnt like it, but I could understand...

Unfortuantely, I'm not sure if I quite trust our current operation to spend it wisely. There was a bit of redemption in January, but this summer is huge..
