Rowan's Creek Bourbon Review

Finally got around to having some of the Rowan's Creek last night. I must say that I can see why so many people talk highly of this bourbon and I'm quite sad that I haven't found it around here, but luckily I can get it in Baton Rouge when I visit my little bro.

Nose: Sweet vanilla, pear, butterscotch, caramel
Taste: Starts with a little burn due to the high alcohol content then has the sweeter notes of sweet corn, caramel and vanilla and finally the oakiness with a spiciness of cinnamon and pepper.
Finish: Moderate but not terribly long. The oakiness is the main thing that lingers.

Overall, I was really impressed with this bourbon at the price point. Some of my fellow bourbon drinkers here were also very impressed and saddened that they couldn't go buy a bottle here. Highly recommended

For a little extra, here's the most recent pic of the whiskey collection. Now that the ex is moved out, there's more room for whiskey without all her stuff

I haven't looked in NOLA. I live in Ridgeland, MS and can't find it around here. I found it at Calandro's in BR.

Where did you find a handle of weller 12? And how much does that run? I'm a big fan

Glad you like the Rowan's. I was pretty sure you would.

Nice collection- I've got a few more bourbons, but you've got ,e topped on the scotch.

Its pretty amazing. Im in knoxville and the biggest store here (mc scrooges) goes to kentucky and does tastings and buys their own barrels. They let me and my dad taste the cask strength and 2 of the regular single barrels that they hand picked. The 2 regulars were better than any ive bought in BR but the cask strength was phenomenal. Ill look at the bottle tomorrow and let you know which of the 10 recipes this bottle is.

Is the cask strength filtered or unfiltered? I know several of the distillers will offer the places to get unfiltered on their request. Supposedly the unfiltered ones have a lot more "character" with the extra oils and things from the wood.

re: Rowan's Creek Bourbon Review
Are there any bourbons that are good enough to warrant a group buy on a premium barrel?

Haha for sure but i dont know if the distilleries will allow flunkies like us to buy a barrel. And if they did it would be $$$$

re: Rowan's Creek Bourbon Review
If I remember correctly when I toured Jack Daniels they offered the ability to buy a barrel. It came out to ~250 bottles and was shipped through the distributor in the home state...

I've heard of that too with JD. I think a barrel of JD runs somewhere around 8k. I've never heard if any of the good bourbon guys offer this. Maybe the Dr knows...

Doing a little research. Looks like Buffalo Trace does with its brands. LINK

ETA, looks like we would have to ship to a store, but if there isn't a price break for a large quantity the idea is kind of worthless....
