re: $826 Miliion New Orleans Airport Overhaul Proposed

I like how the most glaring need, a real connection between the airport and downtown, is mentioned as something they maybe might get around to some day before we all die. Its like politicians spend their entire day trying to figure out ways to make me hate their existence even more. In fact, I'm positive that's their purpose in life.

How about we shutter BTR and MSY and build a big fricking airport in between along I-10 (w/ rail service to both cities)?

Are those idiots from BR still trying to buy Frontier and move it to NO?

Anyway what are they planning to do about long-term parking? The renderings only have short term next to the terminal. They plan to bus ppl to the otherside of the airport?

So one airline could dominate the market and drive other routes out? You think btr is expensive. It would be nothing if msy were a hub.

Plus whoever would open a hub there would have to deal with the city of new Orleans, Jefferson parish, and st. Charles parish. Ask delta how easy it was to just get a liquor license for the sky club at msy.

I thought federal laws would prevent what they wanted to do to get frontier to move.

Just make preTSA available at Terminal D and then I don't care if they tear the entire airport and rebuild it in Biloxi. Just put in preTSA at Terminal D

Denver has been a United hub for a while and SW just moved in. The others seem to have a decent enough presence in there. It would definitely bring lots of jobs to the area.

Trust me on this...you don't want New Orleans to be a hub unless you want sky high ticket prices

Memphis is a hub. It's a defensive position for Delta, and one of the most expensive airports to fly out of.

Of all the legacy carriers that operate hub and spoke flights they only fly to hubs out of MSY, nothing else. If one airline opened a hub that would only go down when one carrier dominates the market. You think Delta, US Airways, or American give a frick about Denver? They fly to their hubs and that's it. Same would stand at MSY.

So far from the little bit of information we have been given, I would be for this.

Terminal D, which was probably the most expensive part of the renovation will end up as a private terminal.

The overall cost of doing business will go down.
There will be no new runways added in the short term. These are the most expensive parts of airport construction.

They seem to be trying to do something about getting more air cargo, which is a no brainer with the rail lines and river nearby.

No matter what, I don't want to even think about a new airport further away from the city. Fck that foolishiness. Nobody wants to ride in a cab for 45 minutes or more to get to the city during traffic times. Denver is almost a joke due to the long commute, so I wouldn't want anything worse than that.

I know how hub flying works. I was just stating that I don't think someone hubbing MSY would cause the others to completely bolt from a major tourist market. They'd still run flights from ATL, MEM, DFW, CLT, etc.

Yeah, just twice as expensive as it is now.

You're saying the carriers there have a strong presence, outside of southwest they just have a presence.

Cost of business only goes down if you continue to eliminate corruption. 100% guarantee a large scale govt funded construction project would re-introduce another layer of graft.

It does appear that the current crew in charge of the airport has their shite together.

It cracked me up seeing Pampy and his company still having places operating in the airport 3 or 4 years ago, even after being busted for wrong doing.

I can't help it, I'm perpetually skeptical of anything politicians do, especially here.

I understand.
Case in point, look at the fcked up Jefferson Parish performing arts center deal.
I don't even really think that was corruption, just the usual dumbasses in charge not making initial awards to the most qualified company. They just don't know how things should work.
