I'm not a big proponent of this. Shotgun barrels have a taper on purpose to keep the shot close together. Even a cylinder bore shotgun has a pretty tight opening. If you cut a larger barrel down, you may not get the correct taper.

The one I hacksawed came out right. It was a 30" full-choke barrel that I never used. I cut it on the first rib over 18" and filed the end smooth. It shoots about a 36" pattern at 15 paces which isn't bad for a house gun. Real HD guns are better because of extended mags and rails for light attachments, etc; but this can get you the basics at no added cost.

Cylinder bore is supposed to have a 0.000 constriction; is that the same as taper?

Nope.

A full size shotgun is fine if your home invasion plan consists of waiting in your bedroom or the main hallway for a turd to expose himself (a very valid plan)

However, I foresee the possible need for movement between compartments in my personal plan, so a full size shotgun would be totally inappropriate for me.

You shoot those 3.5s" a few times without the comfortech stock and then come talk to me.

That's what I'm talking about.

The area in the bore right after the chamber will be larger and taper will increase very slightly as the shot goes down the barrel. Obviously a full choke will have the most taper and a regular cylinder bore will have the least taper.

So if you think of a shotgun barrel as a VERY SLIGHT funnel, if you hack off the barrel at a point where the taper isn't ideal, your shot pattern will open up too fast.

I could be wrong about all of this and the bore constriction may be exactly the same all the way down the barrel but this is what I assumed to be true.

Makes sense. I may have just lucked out by cutting about 11.5" off a long full choke barrel because it patterned like I hoped. It does open up fast, but it is still tight enough for any distance in my house.
