Rush -- 2112

I really don't think it gets it's just due as the masterpiece that it is.

I saw that...he's gotta get out of Canada sometimes (assuming he still lives there). But, they also said that the band had something going on in LA next week sometime.

I agree that it is often overlooked when looking back at great albums. However when it was released 2112 was acclaimed as a great album and remained significant for quite a time.

Still listen to it.

In the 80's when Styx came out with the whole "Kilroy" album--about the guy who brought music back in a futuristic, oppressive society--I told everyone what a rip-off of 2112 it was.

Unfortunately, most of the folks I knew said, "What's 2112?"

Iconic album cover too.

Really? Kilroy came out in 83, Rush was pretty much at the peak of their popularity during the mid 80's.

I love 2112, but Hemispheres is the one that doesn't get enough credit imo.

Totally agree here. Hemispheres is a masterpiece. La Villa Strangiato and The Trees are two of my all-time favorites.

Also, with regards to 2112, they need to just do what it takes to get Steven Wilson doing all of their remasters. The 5.1 mix they put out was a total swing and miss and Steven could have put that album completely over the top. Listen to the 5.1 mix of In the Court of the Crimson King (with crappy old magnetic tapes no less) if you have any doubt.

I'm not sure what any of you mean that it doesn't get enough credit. It's always mentioned as one of the top albums of all time. Now, maybe it doesn't get mentioned much by the newer generations, but that album is, and always has been, a masterpiece.

RUSH thought that it would be their last hurrah with the Record company. They knew it was "out there" and they were getting pumped for more radio friendly music.

The Rush albums most people credit has their best are usually Moving Pictures and 2112. Outside of hard core Rush fans, I don't ever hear Hempshere's mentioned.

Many of my friends only really knew the "new" stuff, i.e, Tom Sawyer, but little before that.

Still that's kind of sad. I'd heard of 2112 before i listened to it or liked Rush.

Yes, and amazingly, I still call them friends. They got all into hair metal and didn't get why I always said Rush was NOT in that category. Sad.

yeah I never considered Rush as any part of that hair metal category. By then, Rush was really into synthesizers to almost pop sounding.

Anyone that puts Rush in a "Hair metal" category is an idiot, and should have all his music taken from him.

I was the one who owned all the music in our apartment, so that was done!
