re: Recommend a Zero Turn Mower

Im in the same boat right now, have 1.5 acres to cut with a lot of obstacles. I presently own a 20hp 42in Husqvarna which has been nothing but a headache since the day i bought it. PLUS side to that is I've learned a lot on repairing and maintaining lawnmowers/small engines. From the research i've done it seems Ex-mark is the best in regards to cost and quality.

You can get the same exact engine and better front castor tires on the Toro 4260. The deck on the Exmark is better than the Toro, however, for cutting a residential lot a few times a month, the welded deck is probably over kill, especially if it is a relatively clean and level lot. The Exmark runs about $3500 and the Toro was $2800. They run the same drive system

I got a 46" dixon speed-ztr for about 1.5 acres and love it. No problems what so ever, it's a little slower than the commercial mowers of the same size but saving 20 mins is nearly as valuable to me as it is to a commercial guy. They also have one of the longest warranties in the market.

Get a 36" Scag or Deere. Will be cheaper and you can still mow through it quickly

Anything commercial.

Scag and exmark are the two that I like the best with a little preference toward the scag. The decks are great on them.

ETA: depending on how your yard is shaped, you could save plenty money and get a regular style 48" John Deere and not take much longer to cut it. ZTR's shine when there's shite to go around.

Also much easier to drink beer on a regular mower.

Ferris, purchased one last year. Has a nice ride and zero problems so far. It is a commercial grade.

I've owned them all...

Hustler and Gravely are at the top of list.

Dixie and Scag are on bottom. Dixie's just plain suck and Scag replacement parts are $$

Whatever you buy, make sure there is a local dealer that stocks parts and doesn't take 3 weeks to order something.

And for God's sake get a 60"

I currently have a Gravely PM 320 60". Love it and it cuts golf course beautiful.

I don't have a problem with any Hustler product or the OP buying a residential model...two acres is pretty easy to handle.

If your picky about your lawn those ride over ZT's can gouge the f$%# out of your lawn if your not careful.

If you have the patience, buy a good used ZT at the end of the summer and prices and negotiating go down. Now's not the time to buy, unless $$ isn't an issue.

I've bought really ragged out looking eq before and rec'd good service from it, as long as they don't run it out of oil it's hard to tear the commercial stuff up

When I was doing landscaping all we ran were scags, we put countless hard hours on them and they're still running like tops.

I sell Toro, Scag and Hustler. Between those 3 for 2.5 acres, get a Hustler Fastrak. 4yr Warranty, Kawasaki Engine.
Right now you can get a Hustler Fastrak for $4999 or 0% for 48 months if you need financing.

Hustler Fastrak vs Timecutter (NO COMPARISON, Hustler ALL DAY)
Hustler Fastrak vs Toro Titan (Fastrak better engine, heavier duty)
Huster Fastrak vs Scag Freedom Z (Hustler has longer warranty and more horsepower)
Drive them ALL, see what's comfortable. If they won't let you drive it, don't buy it! Buy from the local dealer who you want to service you, stay out the big boxes.

That's just the raw basics, alot more to this than deck size, horsepower and price! Good luck!

re: Recommend a Zero Turn Mower

I know it has a few recalls on it already. My brother is a dept manager at Lowes they've had to buy back about 1/2 of what they've sold. I think the idea is cool but the technology is not there ESPECIALLY AT $2999!

Hustler makes an electric ZTR and it's 5K, so impossible to get all that the Raven offers with any quality at 3K.

I bought a Hustler 2 months ago because I know 4 or 5 people that own them and nobdy had a complaint.

Whichever you buy I recommend you buy from a place that'll repair it and have the personnel you'd trust to work own it. Businesses seem to stand behind products they sold better than similar items purchased from big box stores
