I had a damn blacktip spin around and cut me when I dropped it back in the water one time. It was only about 18 inches long and I had a firm grip in front of the dorsal. Got the hook out with a long set of pliers. I dropped it in the water, felt nothing, then saw blood. It wasn't bad at all, but I still don't know how it accomplished that feat.

Considering the circumstance that hoist is more than acceptable.

You know that spot that it gets deep right before the sandbar...

I'm assuming this happens more in FL where the shelf shelf is closer. At least I'm hoping

I better hope the SO's parents don't see this. I want to keep using them for their beach house

Turn on the local news in the morning, last time i went to destin they usually had a beach fly over that showed the sharks as well as the beach.

Sharks are the dark spots similar to the photo above.

I think the biggest key to now getting bit is to not swim from dusk to dawn and not in real rough water and all will be ok.

There are sharks in the water all the time, how often do people get bit...

Not often there. The bite areas are on the east side near Ga. for some reason.

Wonder if it was full of eggs as reason for the release

We talked to a guy who took the float plane tour out to the Dry Tortugas. He said that the number of sharks in close to the beach was astounding and that no one who flies in to the island goes swimming. We'd just finished our snorkeling at the time.
