My random racial social experiment

I was working out with my buddy at the gym the other day and he made the comment that our gym has 3 total black trainers and he's never seen any of them train a non black client. i got to thinking and noticed over the next few weeks that god dammit hes right.

i found this very odd. To take it a step further, i was getting my car serviced the other day and noticed that the 3 black car salesman all had only black customers.

I know the old saying that black people dont trust whitey when it comes to money so can any black guys comment on this?

i guess my biggest question is do the black people know ahead of time that their is a brotha working there or do they walk in and seek out the black car salesman/trainer? just curious

Not black but surely this. They are more comfortable and have more in common, which makes the whole experience easier. There ya go.

Maybe the white salesmen avoid the black buyers? Just saying

The two places you mentioned are considered stressful environments for some, so I can see where customers would seek out the most "familiar" person. Probably not intentional but more of a subconscious comfort thing.

re: My random racial social experiment
yeah i guess so. i was sitting in the dealership and this black couple came in and the black guy went straight for a black salesman and gave him a black guy hug and then the salesman asked, "hi im marcus, how can i help you?" they had never even met but you would have thought they were best friends. weird

I sold cars to as many black folks as white. I'm still in sales (not cars anymore) and have many black customers.

yea i notice that too. when i'm on campus sitting around or something, i'll see/overhear 2 black people talking like life long friends. then introduce themselves to each other. and this happens quite often in my experience

I use to be a personal trainer and all of my clients were white.

Also worked in sales and I built relationships with clients of all races.

Lastly, I find most white salesman avoid me or I'm approached br black salesmen first. I feel comfortable with people of any race.

Both vehicles I've ever bought were from two different black salesmen at Team Honda. I don't give a shite what race they are - if they give me a good deal, then they're a winner.

It varies.
Myself, I belong to the group of black people who don't care about race, all that matters to me is if they do the task at hand properly. Some feel more comfortable around other black folks. Guess it depends on how you were raised, or whatever you come to believe.
It goes both ways and every way in between though.

re: My random racial social experiment
In some commission sales jobs I've noticed that it's actually the sales people that will approach clients based on race. I don't know if this is intentional in that they discuss it beforehand or if it just kind of happens because they understand that their chance of a commission is better with someone of the same race. I've seen this at car dealerships and real estate offices.

The gym trainer is a little different because I think that they often get new clients by word of mouth. Aside from that I'm not really sure how it works.
