How well did Woodson grade out at safety last year? I really didn't pay much attention to the Packers

Had decent stats for only playing 7 games but age/injuries are taking their toll(unlike Sharper who was just old/in a bad scheme and then got injured here).

People thinking this will be the second coming of Sharper are mistaken.

I think we have to grab a veteran left tackle and then pick one in the draft.

re: Free Agency Ain't Done

added WRs per request

agree at LT, some stop gap filler if Brown can't do it, add a 3rd or 4th Rder to compete or groom for 2014. It's a pretty deep class. Any of the following might be around at #75 and compete to start-

(my guess at the order)
Menelik Watson
Kyle Long
Terron Armstead
Brennan Williams
Reid Fragel
Chris Faulk

re: Free Agency Ain't Done

I'd like to get another experienced 3-4 DL. I know the possibility is low to none, but I'd love to see Richard Seymour in black and gold. He is getting $13 mil this year not to play with Oakland, so I wonder what his asking price is.

Thanks for that blues. Honestly I think Henderson or Moss at vet minimum makes the most sense. The better ones on there won't play for the minimum but aren't must haves.

that's what i was saying about these older vets... it's a tough proposition to start earning 1/2 or 1/4, maybe even 1/10 of what you had on your last contract. Some do it, I think those chasing the hope for a ring especially. Others just hang it up. Nawlins is now quite a desired free agent destination. Just like the real world there are shitty companies and great companies. Often the pay is the same, so where do ya go? I'd love Seymour myself if he has the desire for one more ring and comes cheap enough. He played both NT and DE in the 4-3 so he'd be a good role player.

I'm guessing we can afford to address one of the three in Free agency and the rest in the draft.

I agree with this mostly because we have 0 at the moment. I'm still hoping the draft a brick wall in the first.

We would probably have to move up to get one of the top three in the first. Should move back and get one in the second or third imo.

I agree 100%.

re: Free Agency Ain't Done

it's quite a deep class for talented LTs. After the first three there's a chasm that could go into the 2nd Rd. After that though I think they could get someone that could compete for the starting spot. Listed them above-
Menelik Watson
Kyle Long
Terron Armstead
Brennan Williams
Reid Fragel
Chris Faulk
One of those could make it to #75

Adding an experienced, versatile player like Seymour would be a huge pickup. If we were able to get him, and another DB, I think we'd be looking great on the defensive side of the ball.

What's up with Stanford Routt? I see he's only played 2 games last year. What was the injury? He's only 29.

I like Armstead and Faulk. Faulk could have been a 1st rounder easily had he not gotten injured.

Seymour would be great, would start at LDE, giving us really solid depth with Smith, Hicks, and Coleman backing up he, Cam, and Bunkley. Thing is, Seymour's agent said he was going to retire if he didn't get paid pretty well. It could be his trying to jack up his price, or he could change his mind down the road, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Could definitely see Woodson or McKinnie getting a one year deal similar to Nnamdi's (~$2m, some not likely to be earned incentives that would affect next year's cap if earned). McKinnie especially would be a candidate for incentives so as to keep him in shape (say $500k after 700 snaps, another $500k after 1000).

motherfricking thank you

And I don't expect Woodson to be Sharper, but he is a freaking pro and would be the qb for our secondary. I doubt we'd see guys way out of position.

quote:

7. Charles Woodson

2012 Grade: +1.2

2012 Snaps: 486

Summary: Woodson made a decent enough switch to safety, to the point he wasn’t a liability, and his ability to cover the slot added an extra dimension to the Packers defense and how they could respond to the offensive formations they were faced with. On talent alone he may rival some guys above him, but at his age and with 15 years of NFL wear and tear, he’s a stop gap at this stage. Either the missing piece on a team who’s window is shutting, or a stopgap until a younger player is ready to start.

I've always liked Faulk as well but I think he's projected as RT in NFL.

re: Free Agency Ain't Done

What's up with Stanford Routt?

usually can get the skinny just by reading back in their rotoworld blurbs...

2/20/12: Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Stanford Routt on a three-year, $20 million contract. Routt, who turns 29 before the season, is a press-man corner and fits Romeo Crennel's scheme. While he allowed too many touchdown passes (8) and committed too many penalties (17) last year, Routt posted career highs in interceptions (4) and pass breakups (15). Pro Football Focus graded Routt as the NFL's 19th-best corner in terms of coverage.

10/31/12: After signing a three-year deal in the offseason, Routt hasn't played very well, allowing a 64.1 percent completion rate for 491 yards and three touchdowns in his coverage, according to Pro Football Focus.

11/5/12: Chiefs waived CB Stanford Routt. Making $6 million in the first year of a three-year deal, Routt has graded out as the 16th worst cornerback. Quarterbacks had an astronomical 111.9 rating throwing at Routt.

11/21/12: Routt clashed with coaches and missed curfew before being cut by the Chiefs.
Routt was getting torched on the field and not acting professionally off it. He reportedly wanted to use the technique he learned in Oakland instead of adapting to the Chiefs' scheme and Schefter says the coaches there "did not like him." It helps explain why they paid him $6 million to go away two weeks ago.

12/4/12: Texans signed CB Stanford Routt to a one-year contract.

-only appeared in one game for Houston.

Seems like he was a decent press corner in Oakland. He got a way overpaid contract from Al Davis. Seems like he went sour after the big paycheck. Worth a look. Payton has kept worse cases straight.

After the draft when it dawns on some of these guys that they won't have a job unless they accept what is offered, then they'll start seeking instead of waiting for a call.
