Am I the only one really high on Lacouture...I feel his future will be bright for the Tigers.

Frankly speaking, in the last 10 years, outside of Williams, LSU has not had a lot of luck with white defensive players. As such, I think there is very much a wait and see approach with Lacouture. There are not too many JJ Watts walking the earth.

True...however, I dont care about the whole race thing...I'm just saying I think he will turn out to be a good DT....based on the practices and reports, he is doing fairly well for a freshmen.

No doubt. I am strictly speaking about why he is currently perceived the way he is...and it will be that way until he proves to be a game changer.

When Luke Sanders was signed and on campus, there were numerous reports that he was Urlacher like and people were jizzing all over themselves. 6'4" 240 lbs...sub 4.6 40...benching over 500...squatting over 600...and then when he played he couldn't tackle and at times appeared afraid of contact.

Point being, people are gunshy with great white hopes on the LSU defense. Is that the proper way to view things? Nope. Is that the way people view things? Yep.

I see Sonny say all the time that Bower is a potential inside guy and have nev er gotten it. I trust his word and his sources but I've never looked at Bower's frame and thought, "potential DT". That kid is thin.

I agree with the take Willis, Godchaux and Clark and be happy thought. All 3 are studs and all 3 could move inside if warranted later. The only issue is that I think we need at least 1 speed rushing DE in this class and neither of those 3 are that. Don't even know of one on the board at this point with legit interest in or from us. Last year's group had Patterson and that's about it. Bower is athletic enough but isn't going to blow anyone away with speed off the edge, Herron is a SDE or DT and Neal is a lunchpail guy that is very quick but not a blowby type of guy. I'm fine with Big DEs with plus to near elite athleticism at their size but unless we're going to a 3-4 then we need speed rushers or we're gonna be a 50% blitz team. I love our blitz schemes but I don't want to have to rely purely on blitzing to get pressure on the passer. That was our issue last season towards the end. We couldn't get front four pressure and the blitzes weren't effective enough. It killed us in coverage with the young guys.

I agree with you....for the record, I'm black and I like Lacouture....I expect him to do well for LSU.

I'm with you. The thing that gets me is not that the athletes aren't being helped and supported the way they're supposed to but just the kids in general. Why aren't the guidance counselers and administrators not pushing these kids to be the best they can be in the classroom regardless of whether they're an athlete or not. It's a shame that a lot of these kids are just left to fend for themselves. I know they're capable on their own but some need that extra push or help.

Most of the grade issues come down to core classes. The kids are just taking classes that are good enough to graduate and not the core classes required by colleges. Certain amount or particular maths, sciences or foreign languages. Also it's not like these kids aren't known to be pretty good athletes with a real shot of being recruited at an early age. They find these kids as 8th graders and freshmen these days. No excuse for any of them to not be abreast of the requirements gradewise. It seems like most of the potential non qualifiers have no plan until our staff gives them one. That's ridiculous.
