re: California Chick-Fil-A Offers Free Meals To Gay Marriage Supporters

I support traditional marriage, I have a traditional marriage.

I also support marriage equality and think if LGBT want to marry each other, they should be able to.

It IS possible to do both.

Corey Braun, the franchisee of the Chick-fil-A in the Victoria Gateway Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., provided dozens of free meal coupons to a group of same-sex marriage advocates demonstrating Monday at an intersection near the restaurant, PinkNews notes.

My next door neighbor owns two Chick-fil-A franchises and during the weeks of the gay boycot/protest there was one somewhat flamboyant gay potester that protested one of his stores everyday for a few weeks. Everyday the employees at that Chick-fil-A provided the guy with drink and chicken nuggets.

ETA: that is, free drink and food.

DS, I'll ask you the questions I asked DVA Tailgater. He chose not to answer. Maybe you'll respond and shed some light on your use of the emoticon.

What specifically did the Chick-Fil-A CEO do or say that you felt was deserving of attack?

What actions did his company take that you felt warranted the treatment they received?

Exactly what Obama "believed" in his first tern, but that gets a pass

A very dreary suburb of L.A., about 1 1/2 hours east of downtown. Way back in the day grapes were grown there for the SoCal wine industry. Now it's just housing subdivisons and malls. And smog. Lots and lots of smog.

You nailed it but its only like 40 minutes away, unless you are counting traffic.

There's no other way to talk about distances in L.A. than to consider the traffic. In the 20 years I've lived here it has gotten worse each year. It's now a nightmare most any time of day. 40 minutes from downtown L.A. to Rancho Cucamonga? Those days are long gone.

He's the representative for his company. So, like the head coach of a sports team, he's going to get the brunt of praise and/or criticism. See my answer to your second question.

He also spoke out against marriage equality personally, which opens him up to criticism by those who feel that to be a bigoted position.

The company made charitable donations to political groups who oppose marriage equality. This opens them up to criticism, boycotts and even protests. Personally, I have not eaten Chic Fi La in 2 years because of this issue. It is my right as a citizen to vote with my wallet and to take my business elsewhere. The protesters also have a right to organize and participate in public demonstration.

I'm sure you can find some isolated examples of overzealous protesters who go too far, but to try to make those people out as the whole of the protests is hackish at best, delusional at worst.

Ok, so it's donating money to groups that oppose gay marriage, or someone expressing an opinion in opposition to gay marriage that you take issue with. I get it. And you don't want to support them because they disagree with you on an issue important to you. I get that too.

Just out of curiosity, do you do this with other companies and other issues, or is it limited to gay marriage? I'm asking that sincerely

This is SOP for CFA marketing, btw. They get involved at the "unit" level in the community to grow a loyal customer base. It's like how they give out chicken biscuits to tailgaters and students waiting in line at AU football games. I have a feeling those people could be out there supporting Hitler and CFA would make sure they had a sandwich.

I don't currently but I certainly would. If there was a company that was particularly bad in terms of how they treat their workers or something along those lines or maybe a company that had an extremely poor environmental record.

I'm sure I could go out and look for something to protest/boycott and I would find a lot but I don't really do that. If it's brought to my attention I will do my research then make an informed decision.

I love the way Chick-fil-A works the gay community up then settles them back down with their delicious food

Then you don't know anything about the company or their CEO. This is a company that refuses to open on Sundays out of religious conviction. They lose money in order to honor conviction and principle. And you think they'd be ok with Nazi's and mass genocide in order to make a buck?

Wow, I knew their marketing mindset but had no idea they weren't open on Sunday because of religion. Thanks! /sarcasm.

Yeah, I do, because its a business and that's what businesses do.

You answered for me by contradicting your self in your two statements. I'll see if you can spot the logical flaw in your argument.

on a totally irrelevant sidenote, Chick-fil-A's are not franchised. Every unit is owned by corporate. The local "owner" is called an operator. If selected, he puts up $5,000 for his location. He can leave at anytime; corporate can replace him (I think at any time).

When he does decide to retire/ leave, a new operator is selected; unlike a franchisee, he has no assetts to sell.

After Cathy's remarks and the protest, CFA's same store revenues increased in th 20-30% range .. an incredible amount. They have not decreased to pre-protest levels.

And many, many CFA employees / operators do not agree with Cathy's beliefs.

You said you already knew they willingly lost money by closing on Sundays in deference to their relgious convictions. In other words, they put principle over profit.

Then you said they would knowingly engage in commerce with Nazi's and perpetrators of mass genocide because they could make a buck doing it. It's what businesses do. In other words, profit over principle.

But point #1 already shows that's not their M.O. They're willing to lose money before violating their convictions.

Unless you're making the point that Chick-Fil-A is sympathetic to the Holocaust.

Two obvious points:

1- Corey Braun, the franchisee, is not the same man as Dan Cathy, the CEO of Chik-Fil-A.

2- Corey Braun said his move was to demonstrate that Chik-Fil-A doesn't discriminate against anybody in serving their food. Well, gee, that's not the point of the protest, now is it, Mr. Braun? OF COURSE you'll sell your food; the question at hand, though, is if you would support the same rights and benefits package for gay employees that you do for straight married couples.

This story, in no way, ameliorates Dan Cathy's bigotry.

Ah, but therein lies your fallacy. A study was done that showed if you cut hours/days, a great deal of customers who wanted to go on the days/hours you cut will find time to go when you're open.

CFA shows more profit being open 6 days a week than fast food joints open 7 days a week, and who knows what "goodwill" this buys with their own employees, making them more productive, ergo more profits.
