Not surprising. Blacks heavily self identify as religious. As Baton Rouge is plurality black, you mix in the white Catholics who claim religion as long as they show up to church more often than not, and you end up with a very "religious" city.

Not surprised, really. I knew Holland was quite religious, but didnt think about Grand Haven, MI. In general, though, the whole west side of Michigan is quite religious

There's really no correlation here. It can be spun however you'd like but the simple truth is its moot. Many people think they're smarter than they are, doesn't mean they are. There are plenty of intelligent people in the south. There are a ton of idiots here too. Same can be said about all places.
