you can't just look at who the states as a whole voted for, because that tells you virtually nothing about the make-up of a population or the motivations o different blocs and coalitions.
well the general argument is that the southern states voted for republicans due to civil rights/black people/racism
so the general argument is one based on implied motivations of different blocs and coalitions
why did these groups take so long to "fit the narrative" of switching to the GOP? if the argument is that they, as a region, supported the GOP, why were they voting for Carter in 76? is it just b/c he's from GA?
And I'd still like to know what my "narrative" is
i think it is that
dixiecrats became republicans
or most precisely, that racist, southern Democrats became Republicans, while DEMs everywhere else flipped the script and championed civil rights and eliminated racism from their ranks
