hilarious of all, they didn't even have to do it because gay marriage was already illegal in every single one of the states where they brought it up. So, they picked a completely useless and unnecessary fight

Just curious, WTF do you think it is that you remotely understand about the North Carolina Electorate?
Hmmm, nitwit?

Pissed because you weren't on the "bible-thumping" DNC-Charlotte-2012 commission?

But a lot has changed in the last five years
Not the least is the nature of the polling questions.
i.e., """""""""Should gay marriage be illegal?""""""""""

And most hilarious of all, they didn't even have to do it because gay marriage was already illegal in every single one of the states where they brought it up
Name ONE STATE in which gay marriage is ILLEGAL. Just one.

Fair enough. And that was a big part of the reason they put them up there. Of course, one term for W cost them a generation of public opinion on what they consider the most devious and dastardly plot Satan has yet devised. Sounds like they didn't get their money's worth.

Dawgfan just listed 31 of them.

Of course, that's unless you're talking about that same stupid tripe you were going on about yesterday that marriage is legal even though the government denies to the parties all the legal rights attendant to it.

If that's what your angle is, then have fun with it.

Still waiting on the name of one state that has declared gay marriage illegal.

Hey, but let's make it easier . . . . . name one state, US territory, including DC that has made gay marriage "ILLEGAL".

One in the last 5 years (and it was freaking bible-thumping North Carolina). All others are 2008 or earlier.

It's slowed down in the last 5 years since there are 50 states and 31 of them have amended their constitutions to define marriage as a union of a man and a woman while 10 have allowed same sex marriage. That leaves only 9 states to do one or the other.

Even if you got all 9 states to allow same sex marriage that's still only 19 states for same sex marriage and 31 states against same sex marriage.

Even if you got the rest of Oduma's 57 states it would still be 31-26 against same sex marriage.

Keep spinning that spinning wheel, dude.

Haven't read this entire thread but my question to the "lite in the loafers" crowd is if same sex couples were given the same benefits as married traditional couples and we all called it a "union" would you be satisfied?

I personally doubt this would be acceptable to all the self righteous liberals who are out for total "equality" ....

What about polygamy, would you support a polygamist right to marry more than one woman?

Why shouldn't 3-4-5 people be able to marry?

I support any marriage and all equal rights

ETA: Republicans are quietly hoping the Supreme Courts rules in favor of Gay Marriage.

It doesn't need to be called marriage, a union of sort would suffice....

I support equal rights and benefits, just don't call it marriage. Call it something else, and watch how much more support it receives.

Marriage is between a man and woman, it's been that way forever and let's keep it that way..

I'm not homophobic, nor an evangelist Christian.

You even support a single mother and her adult daughter being able to marry each other.

Don't worry, they'll call you a homophobic evangelist anyway.

Totally agree, most of us whom are tolerant towards the issue but don't want it called "marriage" are categorized as hateful bigots...
That is my issue with homosexuals and this union/marriage debate. If you don't support them 110% you're considered a right wing homophobe..

Whatever happened to the art of compromise?

I'll never understand this argument. Really. The civil law (not religion based at all) refers to the union as "marriage". Marriage is just a word, really. I know it has religious and specific moral meaning to a lot of people, but, really, who cares if the word "marriage" is used. How on earth does it affect your marriage or my marriage or anyone else's marriage? I just don't get it.

Are all marriages equal or are heterosexual relationships preferred? Do we accept that man and woman are different and complementary?

First, I'm pretty damn sure that the Founders and those who voted on Amendments realized that new technologies would come about.

So, having said that, if you can't see the difference between "gay marriage" and the other instances you cite, there really is no hope for you. Your attempt at an analogy is .... well, to be as kind as possible ... truly ignorant.

I'm not really sure how to respond. I guess I would say all marriages are equal. I don't know why either heterosexual or homosexual relationships should be preferred.

Maybe heterosexual relationships are preferred because homosexual relationships can't ensure our very existence and survival.

Show me anywhere that " marriage" isn't described as being between a man and woman..let's leave it that way.

I don't need my children growing up thinking this is normal because obviously it's not.. This doesn't mean I don't think they are equal, or inferior to me in any way. It simply means in my mind it's not natural...that's all
