You either get the standard deduction or itemized deductions, not both....so there is a chance the donation would not help at all come tax time

No shite. Thanks for the explanation.

You copied and pasted, but I guess you didn't bother to read. Either that or your comprehension skills are subpar.

Maybe you need to re-read what you stated.

You state, "Right, and they still get the tax deduction as well because the tickets and donation are in their name"...what deduction are you referring to, if you are not referring to itemizing ?.. the standard deduction ? newsflash, you do not need LSU tickets in your name to get a standard deduction...

then you state "So they get back even more if they itemize."... more than what? the standard deduction that does not require you to have LSU tickets in your name...

the ONLY way to get a break is to itemize and not everyone does that

I am referring to the itemized deduction that an individual would get for the donation to TAF you simpleton.

quote:

More than the price they are charging you. They are getting back more at the end of the year in the form of a tax break.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge that you learned in Accounting 2001 last semester with me - I'm a CPA, but I was completely unfamiliar with our tax system and the concept of the standard deduction until speaking with you.

re: Explanation on re-selling and TAF fees

Why do most of you season ticket holders ask for buyers to pay the TAF fee on top of the ticket price?

Because they can. That's really the only reason. It's not a moral thing to do, but most people aren't really moral people.

The TAF points are not transferable so to expect a person to pay the TAF fees when buying a ticket on the secondary market is basically asking the buyer to help the seller earn more TAF points. Most sellers will say that the TAF fees are actually part of the ticket prices which is one way to look at it. It's also the wrong way. The seller benefits in a couple of ways from TAF fees being paid. The buyer gets absolutely nothing from paying those TAF fees for the seller.

Why would anyone EVER turn down additional tickets when they could sell those tickets with the TAF fees thereby earning more points towards more and better seats? It's a flaw in the system. It incentavises people to hoard tickets even if they don't plan on ever using a single one.

...but you'll never get anyone on here to agree with me. They know what is at stake and being truthful to yourself is harder than it appears.

Bottom line: You'll have to pay TAF fees for all of the free-loaders if you want to buy season tickets. You are better off buying each game one ticket at a time. You will usually not have to pay anything over face value if you average the costs of the crappy games and the premiere games.

Obviously you don't understand how the new ticket and upgrade policy works. You need to correct and update your spiel.

re: Explanation on re-selling and TAF fees

1) The TAF fees are part of ticket cost. No ticket can be had for "face value" through LSU, so why should people on the secondary market get them for less than cost?
2) Additional donations have already been paid to be in a position (the TAF ranking) to purchase said tickets, and that's well into the thousands for a lot of seats.

I think we are talking purchasing the entire season. Rarely seen in the marketplace (if ever).

Not a season ticket holder but I would think part of the value added for Season Tickets is the know where you're sitting every game and who is generally sitting around you. Then you have an idea exactly which types of idiots to prepare for and where they'll be relative to your seats. Of course there will always be at least a few that will be sold to different people, probably every game to different people for a few of them but at least you have a clue.

As big of an issue as this clearly seems to be, I simply cannot believe it has never been discussed here before. Shocking, isn't it?

Let's say that your cost for 2 tickets is $1,150. Now, they can sell them on Ebay for $1,600.

You're really questioning why they would ask someone to cover all their costs at $1,150???

Seriously???

It's call SUPPLY AND DEMAND. It's the most basic of economic theories (actually LAWS). You should just thank them for their willingness to sell them to you for their costs. Ya see, there's a reason why there is a waiting list.

If you really can't get your mind around it, then just look at it as they're giving you a f*cking GIFT by selling it to you for their cost. Trust me, they can get A LOT more on Ebay or Craigslist.

Most buyers are not going to pay the TAF fees for any ticket in which they don't have the rights to the seat. Those tickets typically do not sell until they dump the TAF fees.

re: Explanation on re-selling and TAF fees

This is a retarded discussion. From personal experience, it takes around $10,000 in donations to get the right to pay the tradition fund and have the right to get shitty seats. The away games seats are even worse. I believe a person should have the right to do what they want with the tickets
