don't know, was thinking of those also.

This is the first one where the DL was winning more battles, but they did do a lot of tossing, which may not be the point

Did Hunter put Hoko on his back?

Pocic will be an All-American for us.

He is damn good and almost size ready as a frosh.

Hill textbooked it by getting low and driving hands at the numbers/shoulders. You could tell the coaches loved that.

Les freaked out before Louis and Hilliard

-Louis is routinely the fastest off the whistle in every Big Cat
-Barrow was celebrating and Mett sneak shot pushed him in the back towards the defensive side

He tossed him on the ground but what impressed me was hunter wasn't getting driven back by Hoko which is very good to see!

quote:

Speaking of Chavis yelling, today, the Chief was all over Welter. Granted, Welter struggled today. He never got to the QB in the blitzing drills, and his coverage was poor. Chavis kept telling him to keep his eyes on the receiver, as Welter had a tendency to ball watch and get beat on a secondary cut.

quote:

In fact, I think the fact that Chavis is being so hard on Welter speaks highly of his prospects to hold down the mike spot. That Chavis is investing so much energy in Welter means something. As a player, it’s always better to be yelled at by a coach like Chavis than to be ignored.

I think Anthony Jennings is pretty clearly the better of the two freshmen at this point. He throws a really nice ball and is on the money more often than that. Jennings threw a gorgeous fly route just before the media left the field. Rettig was a little erratic with his throws, but he also hit a great deep ball after Jennings.

This I like. Can't wait for Jennings to start with LF. The offense will be dynamic. Hopefully CC can help Rettig with his accuracy.

Thanks to the OP for the links.

I know Big Cat is limited as far as its overall importance but it's the best thing going in the spring (other than Tiger Attack - a real drill). Is our coaching staff prepared to control an all-out rumble?

- Sounds like Kwon is fully recovered from his injury. Great news there.
- I really don't worry about our LBs. John Chavis is one of the best LB position coaches in the history of football. Lot of talent; we'll be fine there.

Exactly what most people thought would happen. Jennings is accurate as hell and VERY polished.

I think what will eventually happen is that Barrow will move inside and Kwon will be on the outside.

BBI - D gauntlet

Thanks. When I was reading the report and read about the LB's doing The Gauntlet, I immediately wanted to see it.

LaCouture and Pocic have incredible size to really only still be in HS.

quote:

First, the ‘backers blitzed off the edge, with the running backs responsible for picking them up. Kwon Alexander shined here, getting to the quarterback a couple of times against both Terrance Magee and Jeremy Hill. He’s the most elusive of the linebackers, using his hands well to shun contact and create an angle of attack.

quote:

The backers finished up with the gauntlet drills the defensive backs did on Tuesday. Alexander looked the best in this drill, trucking through everyone and getting to the blue dummy quickest of anybody. Chavis complained that his teammates made it too easy on him, but I think Alexander made it too difficult on them. It’s going to be hard to keep him off the field in 2013.

Absolute physical specimen. Would've been all-world in HS if not for an injury. Going to shine as a playmaker at the LB spot for us.

quote:

Lorenzo Phillips also beat J.C. Copeland once to the quarterback. I only point this out because he was the only person to beat Copeland all day. Most of the linebackers got a victory or two, and most of the running backs got beat two or three times. Copeland just doesn’t miss blocks, but Phillips played it smart — riding Copeland’s block up field softly, letting Copeland overblock, then spinning back to get to the quarterback. It was a very smart move — using Copeland’s aggressiveness against him.

Copeland is such a hoss. You can tell how pumped the other players get when he squats in Big Cat.
