The Steubenville Rape Trial...

How in the hell do these guys end up with 1 year in prison?

You rape someone, dump them in a yard and urinate on them, and you somehow manage to get ONE YEAR?

Gotta be 10 years. Gotta be worth at least that.

I'm pretty sure they were tried as juveniles.

I may be wrong but I think they are going to Juvy for a year and then there is an option that they may stay incarcerated until 21.

I'll say this though. That town is going to take a LONG time to get over it's perfectly legitimate negative reputation now.

I mean shite. WTF is wrong with some of the idiots in that town? I mean, one might be able to have an argument over exactly HOW severe what the kids did was but shit, what they did was STILL pretty fricked up.

And honestly, I find the aftermath of the situation to be worse than the incident. I mean, drunk kids can be pretty fricking stupid. But, they didn't get any better once they were sober.

Meh, that deserves less of a sentence than something horrible like possession of drugs.

She got drunk and made some shitty decisions.

In the article I just read,

quote:

ABC News has learned that one of the girls who picked up the alleged victim told police, "She and Trent were just lying on the couch together as if nothing happened. She looked hung over but then she got up and was completely fine."

So she wasn't left in the yard, but on the couch with the guy she would later accuse of digital penetration (fingerbanging).

The social media shite really made this insignificant night become a nationwide story. Neither of us will ever see the "video evidence" of anything that happened.

She got drunk and apparently got pretty slutty.

A female friend of the victim testified that she and another female tried to tell her to stop drinking, but the victim refused and was rolling around on the floor. They also said that she had a history of lying.

Not saying the boys were totally innocent, but they certainly shouldn't be labeled for life. She gave one of them a handjob. She'd have to be awake to do that, right?

She was ashamed of her actions after pics hit twitter, then said she was raped...by the guy she was snuggled up to on the couch the next morning...

her claim was she had no memory of what happened. She was drunk / passed out and only knew what occurred when the videos and bragging came out.

I wasn't there. But, to say "no big deal" simply because she wasn't upset or aware in the morning is simplistic.

I haven't seen the vid obviously, but there are hacked still shots of the girl clothed where she is COMPLETELY out and being carried by the boys(by the hands and feet).

Now, hey. I'm very much on record as saying this girl is obviously one dumb bitch who had no fricking sense and made some dumb decisions that set her up to be victimized.

BUT.

That doesn't make it OK. Especially the attitude of everyone involved after the fact.

Beyond that, this town really does seem to be a living breathing version of the small town HS football cliche portrayed in Friday Night Lights(movie). It's kinda pathetic really.

Not sure what you mean.

There are 2 separate issues;

1) Rape is criminal......no escuses

2) 16 y/o girl has no business getting drunk. No girl should get blindingly, passed out drunk.

Again...totally unrelated. IF a girl bets blind drunk...dudes STILL can't frick with her

Exactly.

We do women no favors by telling them they can't play a role in their personal safety and that it is 100% up to society to train men/boys.

Hey. I wish there were no men who would behave like this. But, I damned sure aint going to teach my daughters to behave as if there aren't. That seems rather foolish.

re: The Steubenville Rape Trial...

yes, there are two separate issues

The boys behavior has to be brought to justice.

I asked a simple question.

What do you tell you daughter? Are you not saying to yourself as a Dad,- "why in the heck were you drinking so dang hard, you passed out and can't remember anything"?

It's a delicate one...but at some point, you have to ask her.."what have you learned about abusing Alcohol?"

for me, I am thinking this entire ordeal didn't happen if she didn't get blasted in the first place...hopefully she gets that lesson on her own.

How many young woman in college abuse alcohol, get loose and have consensual sex?-..wake up the next morning feeling bad about what they allowed themselves to do? And perhaps get pregnant? I think most of us here have partied pretty hard and have some moments that are best forgotten...

the point is, you don't want your Daughter boozing to a point of "I can't remember anything last night"...It's sad and very dangerous

I think we as fathers need to spend more time with our daughters while they are young...It's makes a huge impact...It shapes their view of men and how they should be treated and have self respect.

Abusing Booze represents some one trying to fill a void...leaving them unsatisfied over and over again..

I tell her pretty much what you said in the rest of your post.

Now, if you're asking me what I would my daughter if she was THIS girl? Well, honestly, that's hard to figure because I don't know what her parents taught her before.

I mean, if my daughter had done this, I would have no need to have said any of the stuff in your post because I covered that long ago. And, no matter how dumb she'd have been, "I told you so" is not terribly appropriate.

Point being, I'm sure I'd simply do my best to help her get through it. Yeah. She'd have fricked up, but that's water under the bridge. It can't be undone by brow beating her about it. It's one of those cases where, despite your teachings, you kid decides to learn you were right the hard way.

The only thing I've been saying about this case is this. It does no favors to the NEXT potential victim for us as a society to run around afraid to talk about how this girl fricked up for fear we'll be accused of "blaming the victim". She's already been a victim. I'm worried about the NEXT girl. I'm hoping the NEXT girl sees this and learns.

BUT. For some reason, when these things happen, we kill ourselves to NOT talk about the girl's mistakes and to me, this sends a message to other young women that they are somehow "entitled" to be as wreckless as the want to be.

That might sell in a feminist ivory tower, but sadly, there will always be men on the planet who prey on such girls. I'm not sure being "right" is terribly helpful to your psyche AFTER you've been victimized.

Good f'ing (whatever higher power you believe in) !

I don't give a frick if she drank herself into a coma, you still don't blame the woman for the rape.

"Insignificant night". I pray you never have a daughter who has this done to her, then. All that I can is that an impartial judge, from another district, sat through the whole trial, heard all the testimony from both sides, heard the hundred's of emails & FB postings & found these 2 creeps guilty as charged. As for your comment that the victim has a history of lying: did you not read the numerous comments one of the creeps himself posted or see the pictures that came from his friend's camera? He convicted himself & his pal by his own "confessions".

You must get your facts from the same source of the Penn State scandal coverage.

This is the major problem in this country...everyone spouts the same b.s. as truth and it gets repeated enough it becomes fact. No one bothers to get anything right before offering their opinion...pathetic.

what was the sentence for the teabagger? and that was just balls on chin. You'd think they'd get a year just for urinating on the poor girl. this country is so far down the shitter it's ridic.

eta: he got two years. really???

Lying is an art. Most teenagers haven't mastered it. Telling the truth can cause just as much trouble:

Mr. Jones was interviewed by the boss for a very nice job. The interview was going very well until near the end:

Boss: "Well, Mr. Jones, one last question. What would you say is your biggest weakness?"

Jones: "That's easy. I always tell the truth."

Boss: "Mr. Jones, I don't think that always being truthful is a weakness."

Jones: "I don't give a shite what you think."
