WTF. Yeah, people just saved that extra money they didn't need, so the Gov't has every right to it...Wow! Are you sucking Obama?

the general public received services from government but but didn't pay enough to cover the costs

that extra money that wasn't needed was saved

this is a huge logical leap that destroys your argument

the other way is to one by one, look to see what should have been paid each year there was a deficit, and then determine based on income made who owes what....then give them each a bill for what is back owed and put leins on people's possessions that allow for seizure if balance of whats owed isn't paid by a certain date...etc,etc,etc....but that's alot of time and effort.....your country needs money, it's your country, it's your duty to pay.

It's just Patriotism
Country at war, draft people to fight war
Country at Bankruptcy, draft funds to pay.

Does selfishness and the love of your money Gods really cloud your ability to place perspective?

Then the gov't gets a budget, and sticks to it. Period! They can raise taxes if they want, but not steal what I've already paid taxes on. Our problems are Gov't irresponsibilty...NO Mine!

it's responsibility

when a poorly run government, who over spends and starts wars, starts effecting people, the people will demand change and accountability.

But "ya'lls" mindset of "it ain't my fault" that allows for overspending and war mongering all the while knowing that your true outrage doesn't start until they start "fricking wit my chek"....I feel no remorse for people who sit idly by and allow their representatives to kick it on down the line.

I applaud Cypress for taking.....because NOW people will finally start caring.

that's fine in theory, but
quote:

The levy on savers, half of whom are thought to be non-resident Russians, will raise almost €6bn.

it's only a politically-chosen group (savers) targeted to face this levy. there's a pretty obvious group missing from the folks chipping in, and there's no way they didn't share in the irresponsibility that got Cyprus to where it is today.

admittedly i say this without knowing shite about cypriot politics or history though. didn't even know cypriot was a word until i heard the ruckus about all this

forced patriotism is just an inability to resist. if a government manages its finances so poorly that it's in danger of collapse, maybe it's time for a new government, not a cash grab to keep it afloat for a short while longer.

I just worry about a total banking collapse. Imagine if that was here. There would be a run on banks and mason jars. It could very well spread across Europe, cause I know I'd be pulling everything I could out, and never return. I don't trust anything Gov't, and I probably have alot in Cyprus that agree....

just as there are people who would criticize him if he cured cancer while saving kittens and helping old ladies cross the road

it goes both ways

If he did that while he quit spending money, lying and doing nothing but being a partisan, he would not be so despised. And besides that, he pushes old ladies off the cliff in their wheelchairs with no clothes on, so it is illogical he would help them cross a road.

So let me make sure I understand what you're saying. You say that what is happening in Cyprus can never happen here in America?

EXACTLY.

Kash's logic would be fairly sound actually if they were hitting ALL citizens.

But, like always, the liberals want to go after the MOST responsible among them.

The net effect of this policy is to say, "you dumb frick's should've spent all your money these last several years cause those who did are skating".

Moreover, I frankly can't help but wonder if this is going to result in the collapse of Cyprus banks because right after I took that fricking in the ass, I'd withdraw every last dime lest they decide the prior amount wasn't enough.

This is turning out to be a bigger deal than people on this board realize.

I'm never surprised at the extent to which tyranny will try and rule men. It does sometimes comes as a bit of a shock to see the extent to which some sycophant will attempt to justify it.
quote:

“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

All the people thinking about living the expat life, look closely. This could be you. As shitty as you think it is in America, there are safeguards here that aren't in place elsewhere. You may think you've found some third world paradise, but if things go to shit, you're just a foreigner, and they'll come after you and/or your money.

Exactly! It's better to stand our ground and fight it out right here, if it comes to that.

It's just a matter of time before they go after the 401k over here; and that should cause a ruckus.
