Are we talking bands or individual artists?

If individual artists are included, there is a list as long as my....arm.

The Meters- they broke up in 1977, but have played several special shows since then and also have all played in similar bands throughout the years (namely the funky Meters)). The 2nd most influential funk band ever (behind only the great Mr. James Brown). In my (and several others) opinion, the definitive New Orleans band.

The Cash Money Millionaires
that includes Juvenile, B.G., Big Tymers,Hot Boys, and most importantly Mannie Fresh and Lil Wayne. For a while in the late 90s/early 00s Cash Money was the biggest hip hop act in the world, lead by Mannie Fresh's flourishing production. After a few stagnant years Lil Wayne emerged as the biggest name in hip hop.

Others that wouldn't be anywhere near as popular without Louisiana backing:

Dr. John

Played with countless major artists through the years on a national level, helped make "New Orleans Piano" known on a wider scale, inducted into R&R Hall of Fame 2 years ago.

Prime example--Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys producing and playing on the Doc's latest album. He calls him one of his heroes.

Probably the most underrated. I mean he is celebrated and everything but deserves more credit for not only being a great recording artist but especially for his producing chops. He is responsible for both The Meters and Dr. John's success, along with smaller names like Lee Dorsey.
