Libs used to be for smaller "social" government and privacy. You hated and didn't trust them.

Now you welcome them with open mouths.
This absolutely amazes me.

We have come full circle. The Republicans are the ones who are supposed to support these programs and the Democrats are supposed to decry them and support privacy.

WTF happened?

What I would give to have classical liberals back.

Fantastic example?

Isn't this thread about sharing information between government agencies?

Is that what you were asking me about?

No. I'm asking, since you are obviously ok with them having access to your private business without a warrant and now more people have that access, what is the next step(s) that you would put your foot down on?

Cameras on every house?
in every house?
locator chips put in your body?
etc.

This regards access to a database of Suspicious Activity Reports that are generated by banks and sent to the Treasury Department. The FBI already has complete access to this. The issue is whether the intel agencies can have complete access to the database rather than getting the info on a case by case basis. This is not about them having access to your bank accounts, holdings, etc. just these reports that are generated by your bank under certain conditions. There is no warrant requirement for this.

So much like the difference between the ATF tracking a gun on a case by case bases, starting at the original FFL and following the trail vs having a database of all gun owners that can quickly be scanned...

Not really. And this database already exists.

Under your example, this would be like the intel agencies getting full access (I assume this is the case) instead of just case by case access to a database that already exists and is already distributed among various government agencies.

What...do we want me to dream up a hypothetical situation where I disagree with something?

I've already said that I have my doubts as to how necessary this proposed change is.

I think, three months into the new year. Decatur, is the current front runner for Maggie Head of the year award.

Honestly, I'm surprised they even publicized this. As someone mentioned, FinCEN has been around for decades, as have SARs. Banks don't tell customers when they file them. This is nothing new. And I'd be shocked if the FBI were the only agency up until now using this information frequently.

The IRS fires employees who look at tax returns without proper authority. But now any old employee of an intelligence agency could look at your tax returns with zero consequences. It's a great day to be an American.

The information is still subject to the Bank Secrecy Act. It's a federal crime to improperly disclose the info.

Yes, and those 900 FBI files that went missing during the Clinton presidency were never misused for political purposes. You don't have to disclose information to make use of it. Just being able to threaten disclosure is enough to coerce people. Or have you completely forgotten the fears of Liberals when John Ashcroft was Attorney General?

You wil be the first person to scream for change the second a Republican is elected President. Suddenly, you will be afraid of the misuse of this power. When that occurs, I will have zero sympathy for you. You place the rule of man ahead of the rule of law, and you will get what you deserve.

This will be the only time the government will go too far in their eyes. It is amazing how much democrats and true believers are willing to forgive this administration for actions that would of sent them in the streets screaming just 5 or 6 years ago.

I think the only thing Obama has done thus far that Decatour is pissed about is that Obama hasn't let him LITERALLY suck his cock and therefore, he's relegated to chat board fellating.

FBI under the Bush Admin did have this access. I don't remember anyone complaining about this specifically.

You place the rule of man ahead of the rule of law

Where have I done this? The current law is completely legal and as far as I know the proposed changes will still be legal (based on what I've read about it so far).

and you will get what you deserve.

According to the laws that founded each of the two(CIA and NSA) they are not supposed to work in the US, that is the FBIs' bailiwick.
