lsu480, serious question, if you were to have an accident or needed an operation now, would pain meds work for you?

The addicts that I have dealt with ALWAYS ask for more meds. They say stuff hurts 20x more than it actually does to get more/stronger/different scripts

This has probably already been said but it's most likely OxyContin

my 18 year old nephew decided to come to my house for 6 weeks from denver. the first day he was fine, for the last 3 days he has been very sick i was thinking maybe because of the "cajun" food. he has been in denver for about 12 years, but after talking to my sister it's possible he's detoxing. i did'nt know he had a drug problem. how long can i expect him to be like this? b/c he can't keep anything down. i already told him if he was still sick wed. that he would have to go back b/c i never had to deal with this with my own kids and not dealing with it for him. i feel disrespected b/c if he knew this might happen he should have detoxed before comeing here, or maybe thats why he came to get away from the temptation. i don't know.
You should feel disrespected OP. I had a family member go through weed detox, it was awful. Prayers sent to the young addict. I think you are right about him trying to run from temptation. Weed is the devil and he will always be a slave to cheetos

There is no detox from weed. Maybe a couple restless nights. That sounds like opiate withdrawl. Im an addict in recovery from pain oxycontin and that sounds like it.

the mental part let you do it every day. You should have had the mental power to know that anything that good can only be done in moderation. I've done it all too.

so much wrong with that statement. Spoken from someone who obviously doesnt suffer from addiction, therefor doesnt know what he is talking aobut

Not really, everyone's addiction is different. He shouldn't have gone with a blanket statement about it but you shouldn't have either.

I quit cold turkey when I had my heroin OD. Didn't want to repeat the cycle on subs.

No it's from someone who does Oxy, roxy, boy, girl, killers, weed, and everything else. But wasn't stupid enough to sell my soul for a high. Other the PCP and crack I have tried it all. brown, white, blue. Green coated, blue coated, red coated, all of them. I have a friend who gets roxys and does nine in a weekend. I get two and will still have one days later. Moderation is key. Every addict (other than those that were prescribed the drugs and got hooked) has a weak mind. Sad but true. People hate to hear that they are weak minded, but its the truth. My only rule is, no needles and no drugs that have been cooked after manufacture. I have never been addicted to anything, and maybe have smoke 3-4 cigarettes in my life. I may do weed every day for a few months, then stop. I'll buy Oxy when I can, I like the high. But I know how not to get hooked. Sorry others don't

that is a scary drug in a way, as you may be used to a weak form that is stepped on a lot, and take large rails. Then get a strong one and feel sick as shite. I turned green off of it, and swore it off after a few key bumps had me sick. Then tried it again much later and it wasn't bad. But I would rather roxy, as at least with RX you know what you have. I personally think ALL drugs should be legal, as the govt shouldn't tell you what you can and cannot take. But that particular drug is the only one that had me scared. It is good too, so I can see how one can love that high. But you have to focus on what happens when you do it. Never do the same type of drug more than two days in a week (other than pot) and you will be fine.

you can also argue that the part of the brain that says "yes' to drugs is strong willed, not weak

You can. You can also argue that people who drink liquor are better than people who smoke pot, as one is legal. My issue is, once you are physically addicted your stuck. BUT you ONLY got that way because you failed to realize that doing your drug of choice for days on end had serious consequences. My friends don't believe me, and even the close ones doubt that I have never been 'dope sick' but I haven't. I never like to do more than 15mg of any of them in a day. 30-40mg tops.

That's a rather simple explanation for a very complicated matter. For some people, the choice to use or not is not something they have control over once the phenomena of craving begins.
