Are college pitchers getting better every year?

I know the bats different.
It just seems like more talented pithcers are making it to college every year.
Your thoughts.

re: Are college pitchers getting better every year?
Bats have a lot to do with it, also new rookie wage scale for potential draftees

I'm sure the bat change has made the decision to go to college easier. Plus, the research is showing that pitchers who go to college have longer, better careers in the pros

Kind of hard to tell with the change in the bats.

Yes I get that, but even before the bat changes, pitching looked like it was trending upwards.

I think there are always pretty top notch pitchers at the college level. I think pitching is just becoming more of a focus with the bats.

They need to go to wooden bats and move season start to later and play through the summer to make it more of a national sport - you do that, the northern schools become players and college baseball will thrive.

Pitching just looks better because of the bats.
How Stanford got Appel to stay is beyond belief.

Explain how smaller schools with no money for baseball will pay for this. Tia.

re: Are college pitchers getting better every year?
I did a breakdown a couple of weeks back among foreigners, U.S. players from college, and U.S. players straight from HS, on the current Team USA and the last Major League All-Star rosters.

It turns out that foreigners make up well over 1/3 of the hitters, but that U.S. players from college make up well over 1/3 of the pitchers... more so than even the U.S. players straight from HS.

Thus, I think that the way the college game has evolved, for whatever reason, there is much more top talent at pitcher than there is top talent at other positions. (I don't think this was necessarily the case in the 1980s though, so maybe it's a cyclical thing.)

Kids are coming in more prepared than ever. They are also coming in with much older arms.

I'm not saying you should have--was just making a reference to something I did earlier ( LINK):

quote:

So hitters: 17/18/10
And pitchers: 4/10/14
TOTAL: 21/28/24

That's the breakdown for the players on the 2012 MLB All-Star rosters, in terms of foreign-born players first, U.S. players straight from HS second, and U.S. players who played in college third.

Negative ghost rider,it was a homer fest right up to the first change.

What does that have to do with whether the pitchers were getting better or not?

Did Mark Prior (drafted 2002) suck because he pitched in the juiced bat era?

I'm talking about the quality of pitching in college baseball increasing over time.
I didn't say pitchers dominated before the bat changes.

re: Are college pitchers getting better every year?
I'm saying if the bats were the same it would be as tough as it was then to evaluate pitchers because they would be giving up bombs. MLB couldn't get a read on how good pitching was back then because the bats canceled out good pitches. I think the reason we think pitching is better now is because the numbers show up as better. I don't think the arms are any better now than they were JMO

I have to agree with you to some extent, however, I think the new bats make it easier to eveluate a hitter more than a pitcher.

There are more talented pitchers, period. Across the board. Baseball is becoming like golf or tennis. If you have the money or time you can crank out robo talent.
