I've been waiting to see how long it would be before this happens. I don't miss smoking in bars or restaurants at all but the precedent that it set was the beginning of this. I have no doubt that eventually it will be illegal to smoke in any home with a child. Some of my liberal friends, who do smoke and have kids in their homes, will have to figure this one out for themselves.

I do not see the problem with individual apartment complexes wanting to implement rules like this, but again, the democrats want to over step their bounds and control private property.

I don't smoke and never will but anybody who supports this is a freedom hater, hates liberty and is unamerican. Just another example of why living in California would suck ass. Progressives have ruined California....

I'm happy to see that you find it humorous. Which of your freedoms would you like to see next on the chopping block?

Yep. Private property make their own rules and shouldn't have govt interference. Making laws to dictate what goes on in a private property is an anti-liberty abomination.

Real talk, I'd be ok with a person being disqualified from Medicaid and Medicare if they buy a pack of cigs. Scan the ID and you can have your personal freedoms to smoke if you want to, but I don't have to subsidize that terrible behavior

I think he was laughing at the absurdity of it.

Do you realize how ridiculous this law is? No way it would ever be enforced.

Doesn't that mainly affect the lower case who can't afford to buy their own home? My father died of lung cancer and I saw the negative effects of smoking tobacco but I still am opposed to this law. However, I am glad they outlawed smoking in bars. It was getting real bad before they outlawed it.

I used to think there was no way some proposed legislation in the past would pass, until it did (New York's new gun law comes to mind most recently). Nothing surprises me any more from either party, regardless of how ridiculous it seems.

It applies to "multiunit residences," and people who live there have ways of knowing who is smoking inside, especially those who share ventilation systems. There was a woman in Dallas who sued the apartment complex or the neighbor (or something like that) because her apartment was being infiltrated by a neighbor's cigarette smoke through the A/C ducts. I don't recall the outcome.

Apparently the author of the bill, Marc Levine, doesn't.
