quote:
Barring rapid improvements to Detroit's weakening financial condition or a miraculous nosedive-reversing plan from the city's elected leaders, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will appoint an emergency manager to oversee a city once renowned for its manufacturing might. Snyder declared Friday that Detroit was in a financial emergency and appears all but ready to name an emergency manager pending an appeal from Mayor Dave Bing, saying he has a top candidate picked out for the job. Detroit would be become the largest city in the United States to have state control over its finances.

It would be said that Detroit hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1962. 50 straight of inept and fiscally irresponsible democrat politicians will wreak havoc on everything they touch.

Wipe the pensions out, abolish the property tax and outlaw city council.

To be fair, the GOP mayor wasn't anything to brag about. Just like Chicago.

The collapse of Detroit ranks very high on the list of American tragedies. The sad part of it all is that the culprits of the mess, the original proponents of the insane social experiments/funding that went on in that city, the intellectual and professors, are not being punished. There needs to be a raid at the major universities in Michigan to force professors to glance upon the mess they created in a city I remember as a child to be rich, friendly, and full of solid family structures. I will never go back to that town though. It brings tears to my eyes to see the poor little welfare victims who wait everyday on the cracked pavement steps that lead up to the run down houses and apartments that dominate the city. These little children wait. They wait for a dad, they wait for a day where they don't witness pain and crime, they wait for a day when they can believe that getting ahead in life is not synonymous to being an uncle tom. At the same time, these monstrous social planners who work at the universities and for the government go home everyday to their palaces in Bloomfield hills. To kids that don't know what waiting is, to bright clean wooden porches and green colorful front yards. They know. They know that it is their intentions that are responsible for the hell that is Detroit, for the fatherless families that make up the miserable underclass, for the slavery that brings a sense of woe to everyone that remembers a time when results, not intentions, were the final judge.

More than 1/2 of the Black residents in the state of Michigan now live in cities whose leaders no longer have control of city's finances. per Brian Williams on NBC's nightly news

Let Detroit fail and use it as the example of where we don't want to go.

How exactly did university professors do this? Are they responsible for the city's finances? Are university professors responsible for the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs? Are professors responsible for the city's tax structure and the flight of people from the city looking to better themselves? Are professors responsible for men abandoning their families and leaving their own children in fatherless homes?

Interesting because this is the same path the fuhrer in the WH is taking us down. Along with his minions throughout the senate and the congressional house. Higher taxes....errr...revenue, more regulations, bigger unions. It is the same danger Cali is in and a host of other democrat utopia's. Enjoy hell Obama lovers because it's coming to your front door soon.

The idea of the welfare state and massive government dependency started among intellectuals and their idealistic theories and visions.

so theories and ideas by university professors are responsible for the downfall of Detroit? Pretty sure welfare is not an academic ideal. At least none of my professors ever taught welfare as an idea.

I believe what he is trying to say is that liberal professors have brainwashed the college students in detroit and michigan. These college students then get jobs, join the unions. The unions then want more and more and more. Factories say F it and either replace worker with robot or outsource. Worker gets laid off and goes on government dime. 50 years of that and you get the disaster that is Detroit.

Public policy formation is often influenced by those in academia.
