You guys are really, really adept at creating boogeymen (here, greedy worthless federal employees) and setting up "us vs. them" paradigms (here, universally honest and noble "private sector" employees vs. greedy bloodsucking getovers. Federal Employees, like you, are just people looking to pay the mortgage and send their kids to school. If their pay takes a hit, it affects their real lives--their savings, their expenses, their children's needs, etc. They're going to complain.
The issue of the overextension of government should be absolutely separated from that of civil servants lamenting the very real change in their financial circumstances.
Oh, and by the way, it may have been lost on you people, but they fricking pay taxes just like everyone else.

That is unfortunately true.
But I'm confused about the sequester. Maybe you can clear it up.
The sequester is a reduction is proposed 2013 spending increases. I heard the number $85 billion out of a $3.7 trillion budget. So, we are still increasing spending over last year. That means each department will receive higher budgets than last year. Why do federal departments have to furlough federal employees this year when they are still getting higher budgets?

All anyone said is that just like the private sector....when the belt gets tightened, stuff gets cut.
You implied that those people making the obvious observation are somehow demeaning the character of the people.

Because Obama says so. This whole thing is one giant piece of political theater. And this is coming from the a-hole who PROPOSED the sequester in the first place.
For instance...two weeks ago they were talking like they would be furloughed for weeks at a time. Now they are talking like it will be for one Friday every pay period. It's nothing but scare tactics.

1 sector creates the wealth while the other sector survives by regulating it and taxing it. The truth is, the private sector can survive without the government sector but the gvt sector can't survive without the private sector.

Well for the sake of defeating Obama's argument and more for the sake of the federal employees caught in the political crossfire, I hope Obama is proved wrong. But I do understand that he is quite mean enough to implement maximum pain to prove that he is right and win the argument when that action is really unnecessary.

I've learned a lot here.
Apparently federal jobs earn more per year than I earn in in my lifetime (and just when it looked like my 1%er dream was about to happen!).
And private sector employees are "JACKASSES" for politely explaining ECONOMIC REALITY to public sector employees.

Federal pay has been frozen for the last several years. They have endured what the rest of the country has endured. Don't give me that shite.
Also...federal employees, on average, earn less than those in the private sector.

My post was pretty clear. They are whining because their lives are about to change. I'm sure the others here who took cuts or suffered layoffs whined as well. You seem to be laying your general antipathy toward an over-encroaching government personally at the feet of the people who simply applied for and filled the jobs. I've met some pretty remarkable people in government service.
