re: LSU needs to get off their arse and promote the home finale vs. Ole Miss

Last two games have picked up in terms of actual attendance. The Arkansas game was fairly packed in the lower sections.

Neither crowd was over 5,500 according to Brian Lazare.

They take a football approach to basketball in thinking the program will sell itself. That could have something to do with our AD being from Duke where that's the case.

Sure do. Beer, restaurants, you name it.

Someone or a group of people have to make it cool to be in the student section. For us, it was not looked at a "loserish" thing to support your team.

Come on guys, get it going.

Duke basketball does sell itself. It's not that hard to follow

It has been like this for a long time, LSU has really never promoted BB. Dale Brown promoted the program and had it going for a while. Hopefully CJJ learned that from Dale. The set up in the PMAC for fans is awful, the student section is chopped up by press row and the band. There has got to be a better place for these people to sit instead of court side. For the student section not to be full is pitiful in itself. You would think Joe Aleva would know how to help, you watch all over the country and the places are packed.

This problem existed long before the current AD arrived. Dale Brown was the greatest promoter in the world. Basically LSU never needed to promote basketball from 1972 to 1997.

Neither Brady or Johnson had the ability to promote their product. It's not their fault. LSU knew the men they were hiring. The lack of support for the basketball program is criminal. Honestly, who would want this job other than an alum like Jones.

Considering the amount of money football brings in and the fact that our baseball program actually pays for itself with a small profit, it sucks the way basketball gets treated.

The best thing about supporting the team for me, is we still talk to those guys even though weve long since graduated. I still see Dupree, Collis, Torris, Beshara, etc and we always talk about those years.

I know Duke does a class for all students, a bball 101. That might be something to do as well

Also, marketing handles getting in the PMAC, not Kent Lowe.

Yup, the basketball players were always pretty cool. Hell, even Lloreda was. The difference was that the football players knew everyone blew them but the hoops players kind of flew under the radar. When they were recognized, they seemed to get a kick out of it.

I remember the final 4 year I was at Fred's and bumped into Taz. My buddy and I snapped a picture with him and he looked happier then us when we looked at them later on.

I'd like to see the women's team play right before the men's.
They used to back in the Dale Brown late 70s/early 80's "Crazy Days at LSU" time period.

I'd get there early (As did many students) and watch the women play, (Jinks Coleman-Julie Gross-Marie Bennie Jackson) while halfway trying to get some school work done. For the big SEC games, the student section in the Assembly Center was mostly full by the end of the women's game too. It was first come first served then with LSU ID admission. If you didn't arrive early, you didn't get a good seat.

Not only LSU, but the entire SEC should start scheduling the women's games right before the men's because it doesn't make any sense from a promotional and marketing stand point for the women and men to play on different days.

had the women's game started Wednesday before the men's instead of Thursday, I would've gone.

That will never ever happen. Moving them on the same day means among other things women's games won't be televised, the most important avenue of marketing and promotions.

Women's games only get around 1500-200 people so they wouldn't do much for men's attendance. Plus everyone saying they'd go to both probably wouldn't since women's games would have to start like 3-4 hours before men's games, imagine a women's game at 3 or 4 pm on a Wednesday, you wouldn't be going.

Thank you. Thank you.
I've been trying to get something done about this lately myself, but am now in England 'cause my Dad is really sick.

I do know that the Bball team management themselves are trying to work on a pep rally to promote the SEC tourney.
It's sad they have to do it themselves

I will post more details and contacts tomorrow.

You're probably right, but it's sad that they would have to. The problem with this particular game is that, barring a MAJOR upset, we will be on a 2-game losing streak coming into this game and our SEC tournament seed will already be determined. So, any promotion would have to depend solely on the "thrill" of playing Ole Miss. That's not likely to draw much of a crowd that wasn't already going.

A&M is NOT a major upset. Will we be favored on the road? Unlikely. But A&M isn't a great team. Winnable game imo

Come again?

If basketball doesn't bring in any money, why does it suck the way they are treated?
