Sounds like someone is going after Revis

I seriously figured SF would, at best, get a sixth-rounder in return for Smith

yeah, that's a bad assumption. The Matt Cassell, Kevin Kolb, and Matt Schaub deals speak to the value of a QB being something like what the Chiefs had to give up

re: Alex Smith trade completed - traded to Chiefs

This is the best move the Chiefs could make. Cassel and Quinn are God awful. The Chiefs have a squad but no QB. No Rookies relevant to waste the #1 pick on, and definitely not looking at trying to develop them.

The Chiefs are contenders immediately with this addition. I don't mind giving up the #34 pick for a proven QB who will do his role and not F#ck up like Cassel did constantly. This draft isn't that deep and now the Chiefs can use their top pick on a legit OL.

I think the 49ers are going to package this #34 pick to acquire Revis.

Many forget the progress Alex Smith has made. The #1 overall pick, and has had 8 Offensive Coordinators in his career. Harbaugh coached him and Now Andy Reid will have him throwing to D. Bowe and Baldwin constantly with Charles hitting home runs.

Plus look at Alex Smith's character after this year. He was leading the league in % and gets a concussion. Loses his job and still supported the team with Class. I would say his very motivated to prove he is better then what he was his first couple years.

In this league, if you don't have a good QB, it doesn't matter what the rest of your squad is. You're done, over.

This year is bad in terms of Draft and FA QBs. The Chiefs made the right move...do what you have to do to get a good QB, and Smith IS a good QB.

Maybe so, but most of the QBs sucked at the combine, while other players moved up. The QBs will naturally fall now. KC could have gotten a steal at No. 33.

You really think Barkley couldn't do what Smith will do? They traded for Smith to manage games, because that's what he is. They didn't sign him to air it out. Charles and the running game is their offense.

Barkley is probably an average QB, but seems like he could be smart enough to manage games and make throws when needed

Kill yosef. Smith is the most play-it-safest QB ever. So much so he got benched completing what 70% of his passes. Sure its an upgrade, but a 2nd? Thats nuts. I'd rather Smith.

its not the worst deal ever. Kevin Kolb to the Cardinals for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round pick was a bigger goof.

Kolb hadn't proved shit, at least Smith managed to get his team to a NFC Championship game. And he certainly wasn't the reason they lost that game either.

And it's not just a typical second round pick. It's the first pick of the second round which is pretty much like a late first round pick. I would have understood the Chiefs trading away their third round pick but giving away their second is way too steep.

re: Alex Smith trade completed - traded to Chiefs

I think Walter Football analyzed it pretty well.

LINK

quote:

Jim Harbaugh is a genius. . . . It was obvious though that Smith would never lead the 49ers to a Super Bowl because of his limitations. That's why Harbaugh made the obvious choice to go with Colin Kaepernick.

Well, it was obvious to everyone except the Chiefs. This is an absolutely terrible trade for them. Smith, without Harbaugh, is a pedestrian signal-caller at best. He'll regress without Harbaugh, just as Matt Cassel did when he lost Charlie Weis. Andy Reid has been good with quarterbacks, but he's no Harbaugh.

quote:

Based on PFCentral's report, I gave the Chiefs a C when it was speculated they gave up a third-rounder for Smith. But a second this year and a mid-rounder next year? What a joke. Again Harbaugh deserves all of the credit for duping a team into thinking that Smith is a solid starter. He's not. Andy Reid must have lost his mind.

I mean, there are plenty of QBs that can be coached to do the safest throw every play. He really doesn't bring anything amazing to the table to justify this. Brandon Marshall was only two 3rd round picks. I can't really comprehend spending #34 and a conditional middle rounder next year for Alex Smith (at 8.5 million this year).

Nice move. Smith isn't great but he is a good game-managing QB. It's not like KC needs to go 14-2 in the AFC West. 10-6 can win the division.

Did Peyton retire or something?

And Smith is in the final year of his contract. How much guaranteed money are they going to have throw at him in a new deal. Bob Sugar must be licking his chops.
