That's what people who live in the country or in small city America call it.

Lunch is lunch, except on Sunday's, Christmas, and Thanksgiving, then the midday meal is dinner. I use dinner and supper interchangeably as the evening meal.

FWIW, it's possible for a thing to have more than one name

When I was a kid the only noontime meal that wasn't lunch was Sunday Dinner. But I guess that's dying out along with Sunday drives.

I still call the last meal of the day supper, not dinner. Dinner is the midday meal, not lunch. I'm tired of the old ways being discarded in favor of the pressures of citified wimpy folks.

I totally agree. I think it comes from my grandparents who were farmers. It went like this:
Breakfast: 6:00
Lunch: 9:00
Dinner: 12:00
Lunch: 3:00
Supper: 6:00
Night lunch: 9:00

BTW, that's what the small town folk and farmers in Minnesota still go by. I think they call it that because of their Scandinavian heritage.

Yes, what else would you say? If you ask them to go to lunch, it would be between dinner and supper at roughly 3:00.

You don't know anyone who has a big meal on Sunday at midday and call it Sunday dinner?

re: Dinner vs. Supper

"Dinner" is your largest meal of the day after breakfast.

If you have a sandwich at noon and smothered pork chops with rice/gravy and green beans at night..... U had lunch then dinner.

If u had chicken and dumplins with a biscuit at noon and leftovers at night, u had dinner then supper.

Whats difficult about that? Jeesh,

You're a Catholic or live in a Catholic dominated region, so you do what you do with names of meals.
