Unless things are very desperate, I don't go to a doctor. Too many people visit the doctor too frequently IMO.

True and it's a huge burden on our system. I try to triage the sickest and concentrate my time on them. So many people just have to be seen because their near death, and it's a damn head cold. Most won't even try OTC.

wtf does a doctor do besides write scrips?
Oh there's a surgery here and there, but most if not all doc visits are pharmaceutical based.
technology:
log-in to your medical record(history questionnaire additions), get a phlebotomist($12/hour) to draw blood, take a swab of saliva, a couple probes for measure(temp,heart), and a quick scan lumps/clots(xray/mri machine costs..will lower..like airport scans)
analysis prints out, grab your scrip at walgreens.
95% of doctors out of business

90% of things I see would probably get better on their own eventually. My job is to shorten that recovery time for those that desire treatment, and to ID and treat the 10% with more serious issues. Any dumbass could make up a diagnosis and send the pt out with some sugar pills and they'd get better 9 outta 10 times. Unfortunately, that's not a good percentage when your are talking about people's lives.

Very few. Every medicine is different and may affect a person differently due to differences in wt, age, race, sex, genetic, co-morbid conditions etc.
Even treating simple infections are not as easy as it may seem. Most people think antibiotics are all the same, but they are not. Each one is effective against certain organisms, but not all. Not to mention drug interactions and cost factors. And many times what people think is wrong is not actually the problem. So if they were to self treat, they'd be more likely to take a medicine they don't need that won't work anyway while the underlying condition worsens.

In the future, eventually microelectronic sensing devices will be advanced enough and cheap enough to essentially eliminate the need for most doctors.
I would wager by the year 2035 most doctors that aren't surgeons will become unnecessary.

Much of that is CYA. We don't make money off the labs, the lab does, but not us. Often times people request these tests against my better judgement, but hey! It's their money (or so they think).

google cars that drive themselves haven't got into any significant accidents.....but 15 years ago if you said computer driven cars, people would automatically say..."they are going to kill people!!!"

age - same
race - same
sex - same
These aren't complex and convoluted assessments we're talking about. It's just basic information about the patient. It most certainly could be automated more times than not.

If anything the functions and services that doctors and medical facilities provided will be vastly different.
When expensive medical equipment can be replaced by affordable at home medical devices, it's going to be a game changer. And the industry will have to contract by necessity.
