I think it was around the time the logo for the GB was being created.

I remember seeing the glorious master race pic on here and recommending that be our new logo

Things have gone downhill since

I built my first gaming desktop about 3 weeks ago. I think I've turned on my xbox twice since then.

I've turned my ps3 on about once in the past month and I still have some good games to play. I just don't want to now

I don't value gaming in which platform I use. I go from PC to 360 depending on what game I feel like playing, and don't consider it a failure if I skip on either for an extended period of time.

i agree, as i obviously own and play both. but thats not nearly as much fun to post about on here so i try to take a new side every 2 weeks depending on what game has my short attention span

A bought a "gaming" PC from Gateway in like 2008. Had an i7, AMD 4850, I think around 6 gigs of RAM. The mobo failed (will never buy another Gateway, hated that computer and it's just so much easier to build), so I replaced it and in doing so bought a new enclosure. Salvaged what I could, added a few parts, and over time I've upgraded a few components. If I had to guesstimate, I've probably spent about $1000 and I play every game at max settings. I plan to upgrade again this summer with a new processor/mobo/RAM when the new chips come out. I've definitely spent more, but I also feel like I'm getting more for money too.

I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. The only thing I would change is that I never would have bought a PS3, outside of using it as a way-too-expensive Netflix box it just collects dust. I could have bought a Roku or Apple TV and saved about $300.

Couple? I built my PC back in 2005 and just now upgraded the parts. Honestly, I could have gotten away with not doing it for another year or so, but it was too much fun upgrading. Spent $500 on parts that will easily last me another 10 years, if not more.

Its pretty cool when you build your own computer with top of the line parts and experience top of the line graphics.. then 6 months later your shite feels outdated. You of course can upgrade but chances are not just your vid card is outdated, but your mobo is outdated because they have a new PCI express bus, or the new Ram is DDRx and your mobo only takes DDRx-1.

Obviously with consoles you are not running top of the line shite but for the price and assuming you dont mind not having top of the line graphics it is just easier. Obviously no one is forcing you to upgrade your PC but game developers arent developing games to make them better on your system like a console, they are developing games to be the most graphics intensive and resource hungry.

I guess I just enjoy buying one console just for playing games with relativley good graphics tailored to that console.

If you are using your PCs resources for work then obviously its a different story, but most people could do whatever their job is on a bottom of the line PC.

This is false and highly exaggerated

Whatever you say... but never the less buying relatively expensive PC parts only to be outdated shortly after is not my idea of being economic.

Define "shortly after".

See, here's what people who exclusively play on consoles fail to understand -- you're only "outdated shortly after" in that you don't have the latest and greatest components that are on the market. That's the nature of the technological curve. Just because your particular component isn't the best one on the market doesn't mean it suddenly becomes useless, however. As I said earlier about my build, my processor is 5 years old and still runs like a champ. My gfx card is 2 years old and I still get the best settings from games. I don't have to upgrade -- I'm choosing to.

If it DID mean the hardware was useless then consoles would be fricked.

So by your logic, a console is outdated the day it comes out, since there are better alternatives on the market.

Makes sense to have a PC that can be updated whenever you want.

Having played both my whole life, consoles don't compare to PC.

To respond to everyone... my point isnt that your PC is somehow useless after a short period. Its the fact that you spend money to buy the best components as I have in the past, only for it to be relatively outdated in the not so distant future. Your overpriced $999 Titan vid card is not even the best a few months after when they relase the next best card. Maybe I am just dont understand people getting all excited for bragging about a $1000 vid card...

If that is ok with you then absolutely go for it... more power to you. Im just saying that paying 300-400 for a console that game developers are devoloing specifically for is more appealing to me.
