That sounds sweet. Having DART (which I assume would be expanded) would be a big boost the way MARTA was for Atlanta.

Yea, land wise I think its the biggest in the US. That being said, I doubt it's got the hotel space needed and it is far far far away from having the venues. I think they have a basketball arena, a triple A baseball park, and the dump where the Jags play. Would be a serious fricking investment by the city/state to build up that area. Plus no one in Jacksonville goes down town really, everyone lives at the beach. So i'm not sure what they would do with public transit and olympic village.
Landwise Jacksonville controls most, if not all of Duval County, so you would have a lot of real estate to build facilities. The infrastructure isn't there though - mass transit is limited to buses, and the hotel space is tiny. When they hosted the Super Bowl, they ended up bringing cruise ships in nd docking them along the St. Johns to use as extra rooms. Your hotels are clustered either right around the Riverwalk area, out towards Mayport and the Navy base, or out at the beaches.

After Rust on turns it down, the IOC will award Atlanta.

But the Fair Park area surrounding the Cotton Bowl resembles the Lower Ninth Ward (except it's way above sea level). Do you want your shooting events that close to your Olympic Stadium?

The Expo park area, which is directly adjacent to the park, has trendy lofts, galleries, and other cool shite. Hell, TO had a loft down there. And just as Atlanta "cleaned up" Midtown and other Intown locations for the Olympics, you can bet Dallas would do the same.

You can't have the Summer Olympics in Texas. I think Denver would be a good choice the summers there are gorgeous

Unlike Atlanta, at least Dallas would put the Olympic Stadium next to a transit line.

Agreed. If/when they come back to the US, my guess would be CA.

Boston, Denver, or Seattle make a lot of sense to me

Apparently the Olympic committee didnt hear Baton Rouge is getting a pdfl franchise. Hosting the Olympics is the next logical step

I thought Athens showed everyone that there are only about 2 dozen cities around the world that could handle a summer olympics and not lose their shirts. 35 in the US alone? Laughable.

here in Oxford I was listening to local sports talk this morning and they were talking about how the US Olympic folks contacted Memphis about hosting and they were talking about how excited they were (while neglecting to mention like 30 cities were reached out to)...talking about how great a Memphis Olympics would be

I agree with Boston and Denver. Regarding Seattle, doesn't it get a good amount of rain too? I know you hear about how rainy it is and that they get it almost every day. I'm assuming it's nothing like the torrential downpours you get in the south on a summer afternoon, though. Problem with Denver is that they were actually AWARDED the 1976 Winter games...but never hosted. Voters rejected a bond issue to help finance the games and eventually settled on Innsbruck (hosts of the 1964 winter games). I know that there most likely isn't anyone on the IOC that was involved in that mess...but you have to think there may still be a stigma associated with Denver in the IOC.

Damn, because really everything else fits there. Population is big enough to support it, huge airport, great weather, beautiful environment/scenery. (Denver that is) Makes me curious though, would California being broke as frick affect their chances? I could see it doing well in San Fran. Other options that might work are Chicago, Indianapolis or Boston.

Probably not given that the ones in Los Angeles and Atlanta were mostly privately financed. If a California city were to get it, L.A. should be at the top of the list.
