| The best BBQ I ever had (Posted on 2/20/13 at 1:31 pm)
I've been to a lot of great BBQ joints over the years... some of the best places in Texas, Dreamland, Pimanyoli's, Voodoo, Jay's, etc. but the best I ever had was a really unlikely place. Copeland's. They were running a trial test or something about a year ago, not sure how many weeks or months they were doing it, but it was on a special separate menu. If you ordered the BBQ they had you fill out a survey card after. I gave it a shot b/c it looked good in the pictures. It was absolutely phenomenal. It was a sampler of sorts, with brisket, chicken, pulled pork, and a couple of sides. It was cooked to perfection and the spices/sauce they used were like something a renowned BBQ expert would've put together. Pretty good for a New Orleans seafood/steak type of place. Copeland's always has good food but I never thought of it as a place for BBQ. Sadly, though, I've been back a couple of times since and no BBQ on the menu.

Intredasting...funny that it is in a very unlikely place. Best I had was at Stubb's in Austin

They did it in a perforated pan, with wood chips and liquid smoke. cooked over low heat. The same way they did the ribs. They had good ribs, but it isn't truly smoked so not real BBQ by most accounts. For me its. Ironwork's Austin Troy's Amarillo Mueller Taylor, Tx McClure's New Orleans

Did they mention what kind of smoker they were using or any technical details of their process?

I've been a fan of his since I first stumbled across his pop up at Dante's He is legit. Much much better than Saucy's. (they had the worst local BBQ IMO) Squeal is pretty good too.

I want their food to be good b/c it's so close to my house, but its not. Nice people, but I'll ride right pass them on my way to McClures soon. Edit: best in the city is 12 mile limit.

i need to try them again. I ate it years ago and spent all night vomiting into a hotel toilet (Peabody ) I'll give the benefit of the doubt that i may have been sick before I ate there.

Salt Lick outside of Austin. Killer beef ribs and brisket, burnt ends there are AWESOME! I'm not a big BBQ fan but this stuff makes my mouth water. Go on a weekday, I hear the wait time on weekends can be 2+ hours!

Leatha's bar-b-que inn in Hattiesburg. Better than anything I've had in Memphis, kc, Texas, or nc

I had that about 15 years ago. Random road trip with the fam. It was so damn good. Because of the location, most will probably not get it, but it is incredible. Also, there's a catering only BBQ outfit in St. Tammany that is one of the best, but I can't recall the name right offhand.

I'll probably be at McClure's on opening day ETA: I don't know the name of the place but it's somewhere in the Greater Birmingham, AL area. I was working for AmSouth Bank and one of our customers brought use catering from one of the local BBQ joints. It wasn't one I had ever had before and the dry rub on the ribs was absolutely heavenly! I usually don't like baked beans and I loved theirs as it was spicier than sweet and had chunks of pork in it. I wish I knew which place it was!

Me too. Ribs, pork, and that NOLA East sauce is all I can think about everytime I pass by.

I didn't really care for the sauces I'm just going for the ribs and cornbread. I forgot which sides I liked.
