The "sequester" is the Washington word for the $85 billion in 2013 spending cuts set to hit starting March 1, with more than $1 trillion in cuts on tap over the next decade. Boehner and Obama both agree that the federal budget needs that level of deficit reduction and more, but sharply disagree over how to achieve it. In the absence of any compromise, the set of indiscriminate cuts which would hit the military hardest are set to take hold in less than two weeks.
The president on Tuesday, surrounded by first responders who are among those who would see cutbacks, called on House Republicans to drop their resistance to tax increases and steer the country away from the budget "meat cleaver."
But Boehner reminded Obama that the automatic cut idea was originally proffered by the White House during the debt-ceiling talks of 2011. He said Congress "reluctantly accepted the president's demand" and claimed it's now up to Obama to find the escape hatch.
"So, as the president's outrage about the sequester grows in coming days, Republicans have a simple response: Mr. President, we agree that your sequester is bad policy. What spending are you willing to cut to replace it?" Boehner asked.
White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer rejected what he described as "revisionist history." The White House acknowledges the "sequester" came from their office, but argues that Congress was on board at the time. The original plan was to tee up cuts so Draconian that Congress would be compelled to strike a deal to replace them -- Congress, though, failed to do so.

obama is all talk and no substance...this will not change for the next 4 yrs sadly...he no leader--just an empty suit chicago politician that the U.S. will have to suffer through for another long 4 yrs.........god help us. the "sequister" is peanuts anyhow....we are so far in debt its frightening.

The game is sick. Agreed. But even if the republicans play act like they aren't politically correct hacks as well...
The full blame goes to the one in charge. Obama. He is not leading he is playing partisan politics before thinking about our country first. The pubs can't win for losin. Obama is slick as a snake. Even Clinton knew to sit down like adults and fix things. Obama is not capable.

The President is not a dictator, there is a balance of power which means responsibility is shared throughout the branches of government.
I sure hope you weren't one of the ones blaming Nancy Peolsi for the budget deficits of the last two years of Bush's term.
Does Clinton get credit for the budget surpluses of the 90s? Or does that go to Gingrich?

Because Obama has completely shirked both his role in bringing this about, and his duty to "fix it" by actually working with people, instead of telling them it's his way or frick them.

Well, if Reid would allow the budgetary process to proceed, we'd eliminate the situation. The cuts could have been made two years ago, and spread out over the last two years.

I think you're missing the point. Obama insisted on having the sequester. If he made it with no intention of letting it happen -he wasn't acting in good faith.
In fact, Obamas pervious pledge to veto the cuts, placed side-by-side with his present doomsday rhetoric clearly shows he isn't acting in good faith. There is simply no way to negotiate with someone acting like that. It's like trying to negotiate with a schizophrenic.
And since he isn't going to act in good faith, or even rationally, it falls onto him. There is literally nothing Boehner can do with him.
It's like a kid throwing a temper tantrum. You don't try to ration with him. You're best bet is to simply ignore him. If you ask me, that is exactly what Boehner should do.

Why are you linking the FoxNews article reporting on this instead of the actual Wall Street Journal op-ed piece Mr. Boehner penned himself? Don't want to have to judge the thing for yourself?
